She’d played me. Pretended like she was letting it go, then off she went the moment I turned my back. Fucking hell! Was I ever going to be able to trust her? I didn’t like her in Atlanta alone. It wasn’t safe, and the bars she was going to strut her sexy ass into were worse.

“Storm,” Lula Mae said, and I snapped my head up, confused.

Why was she in my parents’ house?

“What are you doing here?” I asked, scowling. I was already pissed the fuck off. I didn’t need her adding bullshit to it.

She lifted one shoulder and puckered her lips a little. Jesus. “I thought you knew. I’m staying the summer here. Your momma invited me, and, well, I couldn’t pass up the chance to spend time with your sisters.”

Momma, come on! What the fuck are you thinking?

Lula Mae here all summer was gonna cause trouble. Sure, I loved when Briar was jealous. I liked seeing her possessive of me because it reinforced that she wanted me. But that did not mean I wanted to deal with this crazy bitch stirring shit up.

“No,” I clipped, “I wasn’t aware.”

She took another step in my direction. “I was hoping we could also spend time together. We haven’t had much of a chance at that since we’ve grown up. I’d like to get to know the man,” she said softly with hopeful eyes.

“Not interested,” I said, looking back at my phone.

Briar was still driving. I wanted to call her and demand to know where she was going, but then she’d know I was watching her. She knew I had a tracker on her phone and probably assumed I had one on the vehicle, which I did.

A hand touched my arm, and my head jerked up to see Lula Mae entirely too close to me.

She licked her lips and tilted her head back, looking up at me. “You used to love spending time with me. I’m still really talented with my mouth. Remember how much you used to love shoving your dick in it?”

Oh fuck. Not this. She hadn’t been talented. I’d been fifteen, for Christ’s sake. She was a good-looking woman. There had to be men back in Louisiana, wanting her attention. Why was she here, doing this? I was not fucking interested.

“I was a kid,” I told her, moving my arm away from her touch. “Any mouth would have been good.”

She stuck her lips out in a pout. “But you loved me.”

I shook my head. “No. I loved that you let me put my dick in your mouth. I was fifteen.”

I was gonna have to talk to my momma. If she didn’t send Lula Mae back to Louisiana, I wasn’t coming near this house all summer.

“You’re not fifteen now, but I bet you’d love how good I can suck it,” she said in a husky voice, then ran her hand over my dick and squeezed.

“WHOA!” I shouted, jumping back. “What the actual fuck?!”

Her eyes went wide, and she was staring at my crotch. “What was that I felt?” she asked.

“If you don’t know what it is, then you sure as shit can’t suck one,” I snarled. “Jesus, what is wrong with you?”

Her eyes lifted to my face. “Are you … pierced?” she asked, sounding stunned.

There was something off in this girl’s brain. She was not functioning on all cylinders, or she really liked rejection.

“My dick is not your concern,” I told her, then stalked toward the front door.

I had to get the fuck out of this house. There was no telling what this crazy bitch was gonna try next.

“We are perfect for each other. You’ll see,” she said behind me as I swung open the door.

I let out a bark of laughter. “Not a chance in hell,” I replied, then slammed the door behind me, heading to my Jeep as fast as my long legs could take me.

She was nuts.

“Find what you’re looking for?”

Briar

Six thousand three hundred and five dollars wasn’t exactly what I’d hoped to get for the two pairs of diamond earrings and the diamond-and-sapphire bracelet I’d pawned. They were the last two things of real value I had kept from past relationships. I never wore them, but I had known I could sell them if I needed the money. I’d even driven all the way to the other side of Atlanta to the highest-recommended pawn shop online to sell them, hoping I’d get the best price. I knew they were worth at least fifteen grand all together, but I needed to have some cash of my own.

I had left the job thing alone for now, but I was just biding my time. I would bring it up again soon. When Storm had brought my guitar out to the back porch two nights ago and asked me to sing for him, I almost mentioned it then, but after three songs, he took it from me, and we had sex on the swinging bed. I’d forgotten about it momentarily. That always happened with Storm and sex.
