“Just swim,” he says as he swims beside me, keeping his protective body as close to mine as he can get it. “Focus on the boat.”

I do as he says and head for the boat in the best front crawl that I can manage. He stays beside me the entire time and even lets me get in first, staying in the water as my father pulls me up.

He hops in after me and the four of us drop to our asses and stare at the water in horror as the boat slowly bounces up and down. The shark never reappears. It’s probably a couple of miles away already.

My father looks the most shaken. He puts his hand on my shoulder and kisses the back of my head.

“I need a drink,” he says even though we haven’t eaten lunch yet. He gets up and heads to the bar inside.

“Make that two,” Debra says as she gets up to follow him.

“Make that four,” Ollie calls out to them.

It’s just us in the back of the boat. My heart is still pounding as I stare at my wet stepbrother, my savior, my protector.

The crush that I’ve been suppressing comes raging back. It’s not going away now.

“Thank you,” I whisper to him.

He runs a hand through his wet hair and nods like it’s nothing. Like he would do it again in a heartbeat. Like he would do even more if it meant keeping me safe.

“I’m looking out for you now,” he says with a firmness and certainly that has me leaning toward him. “We belong together, Becca. In so many ways. I’m not going to let a shark or anything else come between us. You can count on me.”

He slowly takes my hand and this time, I let him.

We’re not just two people who were thrown together as step-siblings anymore. We’re more than that.

I feel connected to him like I’ve never been connected to anyone before.

I’m done trying to fight it.

Immoral or not, I want him.

And I’m going to get him.

Tonight.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Ollie

“We have bad news,” my mother says when we’re back at the house and getting ready for dinner. I had just showered and was styling my hair when my mom knocked on the door with a devastated look on her face.

“What’s wrong?”

She sighs again. “There was a chemical leak at the lab. A pretty bad one.”

“Is everyone okay?”

“Cynthia got a pretty bad burn on her arm, but she’ll be fine. She’s at the hospital now.”

“Oh no,” I say, hoping she’s okay. I’ve worked off and on at the lab while I was in school and I always liked Cynthia. She’s a big sweetheart.

“It’s a big mess,” she says. “Kevin and I have to leave to oversee that the cleanup is handled properly.”

I force out a frown as my body hums with excitement. I’m going to have my sexy little stepsister all to myself.

“When are you leaving?”

“There’s a helicopter on the way to pick us up. We’re leaving as soon as it gets here. Probably in about twenty minutes.”

“Do you need help? I can go with you.”

Please don’t need help. Please don’t need help.

“No, it’s okay,” she says. “I don’t want to leave Becca here all alone. I know you’ll take good care of her.”

I can’t help but grin. I’ll take good care of her alright.

“Show her a good time,” my mother says before rushing away. “I’ll call you as soon as I can. I have to pack some things!”

I’ll show her the best time she’s ever had. It will be so good, she’ll never want to have another good time with anyone else but me.

“So, it’s just the two of us?” Becca asks with a gulp as we’re waving at the helicopter while it gets smaller and smaller in the sky.

I grin at her. “If you get scared all alone, you can sleep in my bed.”

She huffs out a breath and storms back to the house.

I follow her inside, but we’re not alone just yet. The chef that my mother likes to hire is already in the kitchen washing vegetables for our dinner.

“Was that Mrs. Debra leaving by helicopter?” he asks. “Should I push back the dinner time?”

Becca ignores him and charges right into her room.

“No, but make it for two,” I tell him. “You can leave as soon as it’s done.”

“But I normally stay to serve and clean up after.”

“Not tonight,” I tell him. “I’ll clean up.”

I want this house with just me and my little stepsister in it and no one to interrupt us.

When the chef is done cooking and setting the table up beside the pool, I head over to Becca’s room to get her. The sun is setting and it’s a gorgeous night to fall in love.

I’m wearing my nicest outfit—grey slacks with a light blue button-up shirt. The sleeves are rolled up, showing off my tattooed forearms and with my tanned skin from the day on the boat, I’m looking pretty good. Hopefully, good enough to seduce a hot little virgin I got my eye on.
