Fuck.

“You can’t keep me,” I modify.

He tips his head. “Maybe not. I don’t really care. This is what I wanted.”

Oh, Fates. Icy cold washes across my skin. That means he’s going to kill me when he’s done with whatever he plans on doing with me.

I need to get free.

Food might help.

“I’m hungry.” I add a strong dose of petulance to my tone.

It seems to work because he scrambles to bring the bag closer to me. He pulls out a box of french fries and puts one to my lips.

If I weren’t so starving, I might try to argue for the use of my own hands. Eating from his hand disgusts me. But I simply gobble the french fry down. “Are there any burgers?”

“Yeah. Yeah, I have a burger for you, right here.”

“Just one?” I use my snotty tone again.

His brows pop. “How many do you eat?”

“At least three. I may be small, but I require a lot of calories.”

“Well, you’ll have to wait. I just have one for you now.” He picks the burger up and peels the half-wrapper back to offer me a bite.

I go feral–wolf on it, my teeth tearing at the meat.

He jerks the burger back, staring from the giant bite I took to me in shock.

“I told you, I’m hungry,” I say with my mouth full. “Bring it back.”

He offers it again, and I take another giant bite. The smell of the food revives me. I’m downright ravenous. When he tries to take the burger away, I lunge for it, taking a third bite into my mouth before I’ve even chewed the last. My cheeks puff out with food as I chew them both down.

Footlover appears slightly disgusted.

Good. Maybe he’ll be so disgusted he’ll forget about whatever it is he plans to do with me.

I swallow down the food and demand more. I finish the burger in five bites, then demand the fries.

Footlover keeps his fingers out of reach, bringing the end of each fry to my mouth while staying back.

“Where are we?” I ask with my mouth full. I need a napkin. I know I have the special burger sauce all over my mouth.

“Motel.”

“Yeah, I gathered that. Where?”

He doesn’t answer.

“You need to take me back to Wolf Ridge.”

He shakes his head. “No, I don’t.”

“I don’t want to be here with you. I don’t like this. I will never make movies for you again.”

I don’t know–I’m just trying anything here.

He abandons the fries beside me, forcing me to twist my neck and strain against the bonds to grab one with my teeth. He strokes two fingertips down the top of my thigh, along my shin bone, to the ankle strap of the stiletto.

“They’re even prettier in person,” he says. “Your face is pretty, too, but I don’t really care about that. It’s these feet. They’re the best I’ve ever seen.”

My body starts to shiver. I take it as a good sign. At least there’s energy running through it now. My muscles must be waking up.

Once that tranquilizer wears off, I might have enough shifter strength to get myself out of these ropes by breaking the headboard they’re tied to or something. I may not have shifted, but I’m not the weakling I used to be anymore.

I’m definitely not going to lie here and take whatever this creep wants to do to me.

“Cross your legs,” he orders.

“No.”

He picks one ankle up and crosses it over the other. I kick him in the head.

“Ow! Fuck, bitch.” He holds his hand to his head and staggers away from me.

I’m celebrating the small win until he turns with a needle in his hand.

Oh, fuck!

I bide my time, waiting until he’s close enough, then I twist to deliver a kick to his head, aiming the heel of the stiletto right at his eye socket.

I miss and the needle jabs into my shoulder.

“No,” I snap, twisting to knock it away, but the fast-acting tranquilizer is already taking hold. My body sinks into the bed, as if invisible weights suddenly coiled around every limb, dragging me down, deeper and deeper until the entire room goes black.

Wilde

My dad, Sheriff Gleason, and Russ, his deputy, hold me down as I struggle on the floor.

I can’t even remember why I’m in this fight.

Oh yeah, I was trying to tear the sheriff’s office apart.

“Enough, Wilde.” Alpha Green uses alpha command in his voice, and my body goes slack.

He comes to stand over me. My limbs are still pinned to the floor by the older men. “Do you want to find your mate?”

The words your mate snag my wolf’s attention, and I’m suddenly listening, paying attention to my alpha.

He’s talking about Rayne. Finding Rayne.

He called her my mate.

How can he tell? Never mind–it doesn’t matter. He’s talking about getting her back.

Yes, mate, my wolf howls.

I find my tongue. “Yes, Alpha.”
