I pull my phone out to give Harris a call, but Reminisce comes out looking for me. Knowing how this might trigger her, I put my phone away and hold my hand out for hers. I’ll give Harris and my captain a call tomorrow. Tonight will be all about my woman.

The brotherhood I lived amongst believes I’m dead. I’m not going to worry Rem over a feeling. If I want to move forward, I have to be willing to let go.

CHAPTER 33

On My Way

Knight

“They’re not moving the way they used to. We were hoping you could give us some insight. Should we move in?”

I can’t stand this guy. He’s with the ATF, and he has a hard-on for the organization I was undercover in. He’s the one who wanted to stick my ass back in with a bullet wound in my back.

I’m so furious my jaw is ticking. When I got the call to come to the station, I had no idea it was for this. I thought maybe the captain had something to tell me about the call I’d made about the figure at the wedding.

Coming face to face with this asshole was the last thing I expected. I gave them a dead to rights case. If it’s not on who he wants that’s not my fucking problem.

“Things change all the time,” I reply nonchalantly.

“Listen, you little shit. I know all about your cushy life. I’ll blow that shit up. I’ll have your badge and your ass will be in a cell,” Broker barks.

“And where will I be while this is happening?” my captain says. “I told you boys before about coming in here making threats against my team. Moran put his life on the line. He told you all he knows.

“We’re moving forward with the case we have. If you still have a fish out there that you want, I suggest you get your own guy in and make it happen.”

“Son of a bitch,” Broker spits. “We want to bring you back in. On our team this time. Send you to South Carolina.”

“Are you fucking kidding me? How the fuck do you expect to pull that off? Besides, their Georgia and South Carolina chapters are cleaner than the ones here. If you think I gave you nothing you sure as hell ain’t getting shit from them,” I say.

I fold my arms over my chest. As far as my cover goes, I died on that table. Fuck, I actually flatlined twice. It wasn’t hard to pull off my death. I’m lucky to be here.

Rem comes to mind. The last two months have been amazing. She still hasn’t said the words to me, but I can see the love when she looks at me.

I’m still reluctant to say it first because I think it would run her off. I may have taken the lead more, but I’m taking my time with her as well. The more I’m with her, the more this part of my life feels like it’s fading.

“Putting him back in is a death sentence, and you know it. They won’t trust him, and they will make him on sight,” my captain snarls.

“We’ve never had someone get as close as he has. They trusted you from the beginning.”

“We have our case. It doesn’t compromise yours in any way. I suggest you find another way,” Cap says.

Broker turns bright red. He’s pissed off, but I don’t give a fuck. I’m not putting my life on the line because he wants something he can’t have.

“If you would have done your fucking job, I’d have a case. I want their heads on a platter,” he barks at me.

I lift from my chair and get in his face. “Listen to me and hear my words. I did my job. Long before getting shot, I had an airtight case on the Falcons. I should’ve been out of there. Those are the fuckers who tried to take my life, not the—”

“Knight,” Captain Ross bites out.

I take a deep breath and back off. I’m done with this shit. If they want to chase shadows, be my guest.

“Not every club is dirty. A bike and vest doesn’t make you a criminal,” I say.

“You see this shit. They turned him. His word is useless.”

“Good, so you don’t need me. Cap, you know how to find me. I’m out.”

I stroll my ass right out of the office. There’s a storm building inside me. I don’t like Broker. He’s stupid and set in his ways. If he’s not careful, he’ll have this shit on my doorstep. Exactly what I don’t need.

“Asshole,” I mutter as I push out of the station.

I have to calm down. If I don’t, my head is going to explode. I need my woman.

Reminisce

“Hey,” I say into the phone as I juggle my shopping bags.

“Where are you?” Knight asks sharply.
