“But you do think it is for some?”

“I guess. I think a lot of factors play a role— maturity, compatibility, communication, just to name a few, but that’s all relationships, really.”

“Yeah, all of those things are important, age aside.”

“Here you go.” Roberta sets our drinks on the table in front of us. “Are you ready to order?”

“Sorry, we were talking.” Palmer reaches for the menu and skims. “I want it all,” she says with a groan.

“How about this: pick your top two. I’ll get one, you get the other, and we can share. There is nothing on that menu that I won’t devour.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

“Okay, well, French toast, and pancakes, oh, and bacon. You can’t have breakfast without bacon.”

Roberta chuckles. “You’re just going to have to make Brooks bring you back to work your way through the menu.”

“I like the way you think, Roberta.” Palmer smiles kindly, handing Roberta her menu, and I do the same.

“I’ll get this put in for you,” Roberta tells us, and then she’s gone.

“I bet you have a lot of haunts around here from when you were in college.”

“Not many. I went home most weekends. This place was my favorite. There’s a coffee shop not far from campus where I spent a lot of time consuming coffee and studying. I closed the place down quite often.”

“I don’t know if I could do your job. Needles, and blood, and all the nursing things.” She shudders.

“I think it’s just like anything else. You get used to it.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. I’m grateful for those of you who can. And EMTs, those people are rock stars. Some of those accidents…” She shakes her head. “I just don’t think that I could do it.”

We spend the next few minutes talking about anything and everything. “Here you go.” Roberta delivers us two huge plates of pancakes, French toast, and a big plate of bacon.

“Oh my.” Palmer’s eyes are wide as she looks from the food to me. “How are we going to eat all of this?” She genuinely looks concerned.

“We’ll figure it out,” I say, patting my six-pack abs.

“You two just holler if you need anything,” Roberta says, already walking away to greet another table.

“How do you want to do this?” she asks.

“Just dig in. We can switch later or just eat off each other’s plates. I’m easy.”

“Are you sure you’re okay with that?”

I lean in over the table, and instinctively, she does as well. “Baby, I’ve tasted every inch of you with my tongue. I’m not worried about sharing my breakfast with you.” Her cheeks instantly pink, and my cock twitches.

Palmer eases back in the booth and reaches for her glass of water, taking a big pull. “You can’t say stuff like that.”

“Am I lying?”

“No. But we’re in public.”

I chuckle and nod to her plate. “Dig in, beautiful. We have a day of fun to get to.”

“Can I have a hint?” she asks, picking up her fork and cutting off a bite of French toast. I watch as she gets her first taste. She closes her eyes and moans, and just like that, I’m hard as stone in the middle of my favorite restaurant.

“Palmer.” I swallow hard. She opens her eyes, and she must see the desire in mine. She covers her mouth, swallows, and then mumbles an apology before diving back into her breakfast.

“Here.” I fork up a big bite of pancake and offer it to her. She doesn’t hesitate to lean over and accept the offered bite.

“Wow,” she breathes.

“Scoot over,” I tell her.

“What?”

“Scoot over.” I stand out of the booth and move to her side, sliding in next to her. I pull my plate in front of me, adjusting my drinks, and turn to look at her. “Now I’m closer. You can have as much as you want of both.”

“What if I want bacon?” she sasses.

Reaching over the two plates of food to the plate of bacon, I grab a slice, biting off a huge bite and feeding her the rest.

“Thank you,” she says once she’s swallowed.

We both dive in, eating off all three plates. I manage to feed her a few more bites, which is not something I can say I’ve ever done before, other than with my niece. For some reason, with Palmer it feels intimate, and I guess it is.

Roberta stops to refill our drinks. She smiles and winks but doesn’t comment. She doesn’t have to. She and my mom have talked so many times about my brothers and me finding a good woman. It got to the point that my brothers and I would insist we eat somewhere new when my parents made the drive up. I glance over at Palmer.

I’m pretty sure I’ve already found mine.

“The aquarium?” Palmer asks, not able to hide the excitement in her voice. “This is where we’re going?” She unbuckles her seat belt and moves closer to the edge of her seat as if those few inches are going to give her a better view of the building we just pulled up to.
