“I am grown up,” I point out.

“Still my little girl.” His eyes go soft.

“Wait. Until we got together?” When he said he thought this would come one day, I thought he meant me dating and everything that goes with that. But he meant Reed and me. I can feel Reed come up behind me. He wraps an arm around my waist and pulls me flush against him.

“I love her,” Reed tells my dad. I melt into him.

“I know.” His eyes drop to me. “But does she love you? You can be-”

“I love him.” I cut my dad off. I know what so many people think of Reed. He can be cold and ruthless. My dad knows he’s never that way with me, but it doesn't mean he wouldn't worry.

“Then that’s all I need to hear.” My dad pulls me in for another hug, kissing the top of my head. “We’re having dinner tomorrow. There are more things to be discussed, but it’s late and I want your mother here for that.”

“Thank you.” I smile up at my dad.

“I love you, pumpkin. If this is what you want it’s what I want. I just needed to hear you say it.” He looks to Reed. “We’ll talk tomorrow too.” He holds his hand out. Reed takes it. They shake for a minute before my dad pulls him in for a hug too, making me smile even bigger before he leaves.

When the elevator doors close leaving Reed and me alone, I jump into his arms. “How did everyone know we were going to end up together but us?” He gives my ass a squeeze.

“I knew.”

“You could have let me know.” I try to glare at him, but all I can seem to do is smile. I wiggle for him to put me down. I see the food sitting on the table by the door but what really catches my attention is the bag Carly dropped by the door. “Let me down.” I wiggle more. He reluctantly puts me down. “I think I know something you don’t.”

I pick the bag up and pull out the pregnancy test. I've been feeling strange this last week. It was why Carly and I met at the pharmacy to pick up the test to begin with. But then Reed had shown up with James, and everything got crazy. James had assumed that it was Carly that was buying the test. Reed’s whole face changes as he takes it from my hand. He looks from the test up to me again.

“I’ve been trying to get you pregnant.” He says it almost like a confession. “That way you wouldn’t be able to leave me.”

I burst into laughter. “You wouldn't have let me leave pregnant or not.” He keeps thinking his little confessions are going to freak me out. “Pretty sure it was me that kept pushing your cum inside me.” As I say it my face fills with heat, feeling a little shy, but it is the truth.

“Take it,” he orders.

“Does it really matter?” I ask. “If I’m not pregnant today it will only be a matter of time.”

He lifts me up in his arms. “We’re getting married.” Of course he’s not asking. That only turns me on. I wrap my legs around him.

“Because I might be pregnant?”

“No, because you’ve been mine far too long without everyone knowing it.” I love the sound of that. I want everyone to know Reed belongs to me too.

“Yes.” Reed’s face lights up as his mouth comes down onto mine. Never has there been a more perfect kiss. He pours everything he has into it and I do the same.

“Don’t tell your dad I proposed before I ask him.” Reed breaks our kiss. “I want to make sure that I do this the right way.”

I nod in agreement. “Now, let’s go take that test to see if we’re pregnant.”

“Okay.” Reed leans down, giving me one last peck before he carries me off to the bathroom to see what the future holds for us.

It might seem as if it’s taken us a while to get here or that we’ve wasted time by not telling each other our true feelings, but in reality everything has happened the way it was supposed to. I believe we both needed this time to grow separately in order for us to now grow as one.

Epilogue

Years later

I glance down at my watch to check the time. I’d already allotted an extra twenty minutes for the meeting and I knew we were over that. Robert must notice my aggravation because he speaks before I can. He must start to sense that I’m done and that he needs to wrap it up.

“We’re going to have to call it a day.” He slaps his hands, standing up from his chair. He says he has more tact than I do when I cut a meeting off. I don’t care how it ends just as long as it does. One thing I’m never late for is meeting my wife or little girls. I only entertained this meeting today to keep myself busy.
