“I love Jordan Peele movies.” Azure smiled wide while English grabbed her phone from her purse and made a call.

“Hi, Cammy! How are the kids doing? Uh huh… ohhh, that’s cute! … Mmmm hmmm… Hey, do you have plans later tonight ’cause we’re still out? … Oh, great! I’ll pay you a bit extra ’cause it’s a last-minute change. My sisters and I are going to the movies tonight… yes! Order yourself a pizza and call me or Desiree if anything… oh, I know you’ve got it under control, honey… Okay, bye!” English looked around the table. “We’re good!”

Azure waved down the waitress and offered to pay the bill, but English swatted her hand away and took care of the tab. She looked up movie times on her phone and they were in luck. The next showing would be in thirty-two minutes. Soon, they were gathering their shopping bags and heading towards Desiree’s white Honda Pilot. They placed their bags in the trunk, then piled into the SUV, Azure next to Melanie in the back. Desiree turned on the radio, and as the ladies got to laughing and talking over one another, ‘DJ Khaled’s, ‘I Got the Keys’ started playing.

A chill ran down her spine…

I wonder if they know their men are dark angels. I believe English does. Axel is the definition of a family man, but he’s got a way about him that causes him to be in survival mode, and he’s also got a guardian personality. Yeah… English knows. She just suppresses it. I bet she’s even witnessed something firsthand. Melanie knows her brother well but doesn’t discuss that aspect of him—she’s not trying to incriminate him for nobody. And Desiree suspects Legend is a whole ass monster but doesn’t want it confirmed. She’s so in love with him and he’s a great father, so that’s what she focuses on.

Legend is who he is. Axel is who he is. Caspian is who he is. I know who I’m marrying. I know what he is… He’s a vengeful creation of God. It ain’t my duty to tell these ladies, broach the conversation about the fact that their men are angels of death. I can’t prove it, I ain’t seen it with my own eyes, but I can feel it. Deep down, in my bones, beyond the purple cornfields and blood-tinged skies, I know it… and so do they. That’s all that matters. None of these women is dumb. They are just choosing to hear no evil… see no evil… speak no evil.

They’re not walking into this blindly, but they also don’t have to live and sleep with it. These men don’t even want them involved, but they can’t fight their true nature. The Brothers Disciples are protective of what they deem as their own. These beautiful Black women, and Melanie, mean the world to these men. The children they’ve had from these unions will be safeguarded at all times, but what these soldiers of darkness do behind closed doors, when no one is watching, is a beautiful evil…

They’re brothers. Not through blood, but through their need to survive and right wrongs…. They’re more related than siblings. They’ve proven that blood is not thicker than water. The river runs deep.

Caspian… be safe, my Love. Don’t ever let me see the shit you’re doing. Just be cognizant that I know the truth. It’s an ugly thing… but really, who am I to judge? Beauty is subjective. Love is a house and Caspian has the key…

After taking a few deep breaths, Caspian reached under the bed and pulled out his specially prepared kill kit, then headed for the new rental car with the fake license plate and decal stickers.

He made a few calls.

Double checked his alibi.

SNE was due for an assignment…

Legend once told me about a time when a police raid happened on his house. He was a drug dealer and these sorts of things went along with the territory. The problem was that Legend had over twelve grand in cash on him. Being a lover of nice things, he also had expensive sculptures, televisions, computers and stereo systems. Things that others would want.

When the Louisville Kentucky police were done with my brother, Legend was in the hospital in bad condition, then transported to jail for trafficking. They’d beaten him so severely, he had to be placed in an induced coma for several weeks due to brain swelling. Little did they know that Legend wasn’t some idiot. He was a planner, and he always had backup. This motherfucker had cameras all over his house.

He had them in places one wouldn’t think to look, and two of those cameras they’d missed before ransacking and pillaging his house had recorded officers stealing his valuables, stuffing cash into their pockets, and even removing expensive bottles of wine and liquor from his home.
