“I DON’T KNOW HER, D!” the bastard protested, looking weak and silly.

“You don’t know her? You lyin’! I hate you Gio!” Delilah repeated. “You keep cheatin’ on me! I fuckin’ hate you!”

“I’m telling you the truth! I ain’t never seen this woman before a day in my life.”

“You must think I’m dumb. I saw her come out of our apartment, Gio. I’m gonna beat the Black off you, mothafucka!”

Azure tightened her grip as the woman kept squirming and trying to grab him as if her arms were mechanical claws, and he were some toy in the grocery store game machines.

“What are you talkin’ about, D?! Who is this?”

“Uh, bruh, it’s all over. We’re beyond that now.” Azure rolled her eyes, in disbelief that he was still trying to sell that story. Pathetic.

“Beyond what?! Who the hell are you?” He turned off the water. “Can you hand me that towel, Delilah?” He pointed across the way.

The fucking nerve.

Delilah snorted as tears traced her cheeks.

“Don’t be afraid of being naked in front of me, boy. I’ve seen Mista Willy Pete quite a few times now.” Azure snickered. “You got some nerve, but you’re stupid on top of it all, and that takes the cake. Thinkin’ I was going to sell my own self out to cover for you.”

“D, you must’ve seen her come out of the apartment next to ours, baby. Look around! No woman has been here!”

She shot a glance at Delilah, who was clearly beaten down and tired.

How many times you gotta go through this, sista?

“So now you don’t know me, Gio?”

“No, I don’t! Somebody is tryna set me up. I was in here cleanin’ up the apartment, baby. I even dusted and everything. That’s why all of our stuff is in the closet, actually. So I could make sure I got every spot.” Azure rolled her eyes. “After I finished, I jumped in the shower. That’s it!”

“Mothafucka, you just got done eatin’ my pussy for thirty minutes straight, and I busted in yo’ mouth ’bout three times! I hate to be so crass but I’m not playin’ any games, and I’m ’bout tired of your shit today. You’re wasting my time. You’ve been to my apartment four times,” She held up four fingers, “and we had sex two of those times. Your nickname is G, your zodiac sign is Sagittarius. Birthday December 13th, and you are definitely a horse’s ass right about now! Your mother lives in Boston. You have two sisters and two brothers. The boys are twins.”

“Hold up! Hold up! Hold up!” He began waving his hands about, pure panic spanning his deceitful face.

“You hold up, buttercup! Your shoe size is twelve. You used to take acting classes when you lived in New York years ago, but left there because you missed it back here at home and said the city is overrated. You hate the movie ‘3 Strikes,’ and you want to eventually move to Jamaica. Your favorite snack is popcorn with tabasco sauce on it and you’re a vegan, despite eatin’ pussy like a champ. But I don’t know you, mothafucka? You keep lyin’ and I’mma turn ’er loose!”

The man stood there, his mouth hanging open like some cave entrance. I bet it’s full of bats and lies, too.

“Delilah… baby… I’m sorry… you know I love you…” His eyes watered, and the theatrics began as he stepped out of the shower and snatched a towel, wrapping it around his waist.

The woman’s lower lip trembled.

“You keep hurtin’ me! You don’t love me!” And then, she burst out in tears again.

“Nope. Not about to stand here and watch the love bombin’ bullshit start again. Delilah let’s go. NOW!” She snapped her fingers, then dragged the woman out of the bathroom while Gio’s wet, desperate footsteps thundered behind them.

“D, where you goin’?! WHERE YOU GOIN’, BABY?!”

“She going with me, nigga!” Azure cackled. “I stole your woman! Have a nice day!”

She managed to get Delilah out of the apartment, then held her hand like they were sisters. Best friends bonded for life. Delilah was crying like a baby, her nerves obviously a mess.

“I want you to take some deep breaths, ya hear me?”

The lady nodded, though it was obvious she was on the verge of hyperventilating.

“Where we goin’?” she said between snivels.

“You and I are going to the bar. We’ll get some drinks and appetizers. My treat. You’re going to sit there, listen to some good music, and talk to me. Let it all out, and then, we’ll probably never talk again.”

They exited the apartment building and she brought the woman to her car. After opening the passenger door, she helped the unfortunate lady into her black Honda Civic and took a deep breath. She got into the driver’s seat, started up the engine, and the music came on: Japanese Denim,’ by Daniel Caesar.’ Handing Delilah a tissue, she pulled away from the parking spot, determined to get them both away from there as fast as possible.
