To me.

“Fuck,” I croaked.

Dad chuckled from the living room. Finally managing to make my feet work, I walked to the end of the staircase and held my hand out to her to help her down the last couple of steps. When she was finally in front of me, I shook my head in disbelief.

“You’re…you’re…fuck, there’s no goddamn words, baby girl.”

“You like it?” she timidly asked, looking unsure.

I nodded. “I love this dress,” I rasped. I slid my hand along her belly, feeling our little one hit my hand. A smile pulled at my lips. “I’d kiss you if I wasn’t worried about ruining your lipstick.”

She flushed. Mom moved past us, her phone out. “I need pictures,” she said. I didn’t even groan like I normally would. I wanted these pictures, too, though Kaleb and I would definitely pale in comparison to the beautiful girl I got to call mine. But that was alright. I always wanted her to outshine everyone else.

Once our pictures were taken, I led Elizabeth out to my truck, easily lifting her into the passenger seat. Kaleb hopped into the back. “I’m going to need you to wear that dress for any future kids we have,” I told her.

Her cheeks flamed red. “Future kids?” she squeaked.

I nodded, grinning, purposefully ignoring how alarmed she looked. “I want a big family, baby girl.”

Kaleb barked out a laugh. “Making baby plans and you haven’t even asked her to be your wife,” he teased.

I cut him a dirty look in the rearview mirror, but he just smirked at me.

Fucker.

It didn’t take us long to get to the school. After finding the closest park I could so Liz wouldn’t have to walk that far, I lifted her down from the truck. Grabbing her hand in mine, I led her to the gym entrance, ignoring everyone’s stares in the parking lot. I would’ve thought everyone would have gotten used to seeing me and Elizabeth together and seeing her pregnant, but apparently not.

“Do we have to stay long?” she asked me.

I shook my head, looking down at her. “Of course not, baby girl. I just want you to have the experience.”

She smiled softly at me and gently squeezed my hand. Everyone turned to look at us once we stepped into the loud gym, but no one said anything. Since I’d made it very clear that Elizabeth and I were in a committed relationship, and once everyone saw she had the protection of the entire football team, the bullying slowly came to a halt. I still didn’t leave her alone, unable to get that bathroom scene out of my head, but it was a little easier knowing everyone was leaving her be now.

“Dance with me?” I asked her.

She smiled. “Of course.”

I led her to the dance floor right as a slow song began to play. Drawing her into my arms the best I could with our baby between us, I slowly moved along the floor, leading her the best I could. She was glowing, positively happy, and it was a beautiful sight to witness and behold.

And it warmed my chest to know I was the one making her this happy. That I was part of this beautiful experience with her.

As I promised her, we didn’t stay long. We danced to a couple of slow songs, let the guys see her in her dress because I couldn’t resist showing her off, and then we left. But instead of taking her home, I took her to where everything started between us.

That field.

The one where we got drunk, fucked, and I fell even more madly in love with her.

“Is this…” she whispered, her voice trailing off. She turned to look at me.

I nodded. “This is the place everything started for us,” I told her, a nervous smile tilting my lips.

She smiled, her eyes glistening. “I think about this field all the time,” she confessed, her voice soft.

“I do, too.” Hell, I’d never forget it. I remembered every bit of that night, even if we’d both been absolutely smashed.

I slid out of the truck and came around to her side, lifting her out. But not wanting her to get her dress ruined or dirty, I carried her to the back of the truck and settled her on the tailgate before hopping up beside her.

The night was warm, stars twinkling in the sky, the moon casting enough light to see by. It was almost a replica of the night we spent out here, minus the regular clothes and the bottle of liquor.

“I wanted to ask you something,” I told her before I chickened out.

“Hm?” she hummed, looking up at the stars. The moon cast a beautiful glow over her face, making my chest ache with longing, even though I was sitting right here beside her.

I slid her ring out of my pocket and flipped the box open in front of her. She looked down, and a gasp ripped from her throat. Her eyes snapped to mine, questions lingering in her gaze. I swallowed thickly.
