“A light?” I whispered. My eyes were adjusting quickly, but this felt intimate…almost too intimate. It left me shivering, my heart racing.

His lips crashed against mine, and I softly moaned, wrapping my arms around his neck as I hungrily kissed him back. “I don’t like you crying,” he rasped as he peppered gentle kisses down my throat.

“They were good tears,” I quietly told him.

He shook his head against my shoulder. “Not when it’s because someone ever made you feel unworthy.”

A lump settled in my throat for the second time that day. “Drake—” I croaked.

A gasp ripped from my lips when he rubbed me over my leggings, his fingers easily finding my clit. I moaned and sank my teeth into my bottom lip. “There you go,” he growled against the skin of my throat, his hard body pressed against mine as he continued to rub my clit, quickly drawing me to the edge.

“Drake,” I whimpered, my hands clawing at the back of his neck before tugging on his hair, gasps and whimpers ripping from my throat.

“So fucking pretty when you’re about to cum for me,” he rasped, licking a trail up the tender skin of my neck. “You going to come for me, baby girl?”

I slapped my hands over my mouth as I cried out, muffling the sound, my knees shaking. My panties were drenched, but I couldn’t even bring myself to care as waves of pure pleasure rolled through my body.

“Easy, baby,” he whispered. He grabbed my hands in his, pecking my fingers and cheeks with soft kisses. “Breathe for me.”

He released my hands and slid his along my waist. I braced mine on his sternum, my chest heaving. He took advantage and claimed my lips, kissing me slowly and deeply before wrapping his arms around me, holding me to his chest.

“I love you. I know it seems stupid early, and I don’t need to hear the words from you. But I need you to know at least one person in this world fucking loves you, baby girl.”

My breath shuddered out of my lungs, and two tears slid down my cheeks. I wrapped my arms tightly around him, conveying to him through my actions what I was too afraid to open my mouth to speak into existence.

I was on edge all day at school for absolutely no reason. No one said a word to me. Granted, their looks still said everything they weren’t verbally speaking, but not a harsh word was thrown my way, and everyone avoided me.

Probably helped that Drake and his friends stuck to me like the plague though. I didn’t mind. It was nice having people actually give a damn. I just wished it had happened long before now.

“Where are we going?” I asked when Drake headed toward town instead of the subdivision where I lived.

“Meeting Kaleb and a couple of other guys for burgers and shakes. Figured you might want some, too. You up for that? I can cancel if you’re not.”

“No!” I shouted, wincing afterward when my throat hurt but he also looked at me in alarm. “Sorry, no,” I repeated, my voice a little quieter now. “We can definitely go out with your friends. I just didn’t know where we were going. Please don’t ever cancel your plans because of me.”

He shook his head and reached over to grab my hand in his, giving it a gentle squeeze. “Baby girl, you’re my priority. Everything I do from here on out will be with you in mind.”

My cheeks warmed. I gently squeezed his hand in return, not knowing what to say to that, but one thing about Drake, he didn’t need words from me.

He just needed me to stay.

And trust me, I wasn’t running anywhere.

When we got to the restaurant—a local, family-owned diner that had been in business since the seventies—Kaleb swung open my door, grinning at me. I jerked back in surprise, but he wasn’t deterred in the slightest. “Come on. Drake had me order for you ahead of time. You ever been here?”

“Uh, no,” I stammered as he helped me down from the truck.

Drake met us at the front of the truck and grabbed my hand in his, leaning down to kiss the top of my head before pulling open the door, letting me walk into the restaurant in front of him.

“You’re going to love it,” Kaleb said. “Best shakes I’ve ever had.”

“He’s had quite a few shakes from different places,” Drake explained at my confused look. “His parents are pretty well off, like yours, and he travels with them sometimes in the summer. And he has a weakness for milkshakes.”

He pulled out my chair for me at the table we walked to before sitting down beside me. “Rodney and Chandler will be here—”

“Right now,” Chandler interrupted Drake, dropping into a chair on the other side of me. Rodney took the one next to Kaleb. Chandler grinned at me. “Glad to see we haven’t run you off yet.”
