“Yeah, the long and short of it is that her brother stole some money and drugs from a guy named Buster. Daisy, my girl, talked him into giving us the drugs. Plan was for us to return the drugs to Buster and buy her brother some time to repay the money.”

“Guessing the brother didn’t stick to the plan?” Oscar asked.

“No, the fucker did not. He shot me and took off with Daisy and the drugs.”

“Fuuuck,” Darius said, gazing at the bandage on his head. “You’re lucky to be standing here.”

“Don’t I know it,” Moose said. The wound on his scalp burned like hell, but he hadn’t wanted to take medication, even Tylenol. The pain fueled him, reminding Moose what was at stake and how far Ricky was willing to go.

“Okay, Buster’s a piece of shit, and he’s dangerous, but he’s also stupid,” Darius said.

Moose sucked in a breath. “You know him?”

Oscar grunted. “Fuck yeah, we know him. We’re skip tracers. Piece of shit like him falls on our radar from time to time.”

Holy shit, Moose would kiss Cutter when he saw him next. “You know where he lives?”

Darius gave him an evil grin. “Sure fucking do. You wanna start there?”

Nodding, Moose grabbed his gun. “Yeah. I got this sick feeling Ricky is gonna try to make Daisy pay off his debt.” He shoved the gun into a holster on his belt.

“You mean…” Oscar’s eyes narrowed.

“I do.” God, he hoped they weren’t too fucking late. The sun was setting, and with it, their chances of finding Daisy unharmed.

“Well then, blowing them away will be the highlight of our day,” Darius said. “We’ll take my Jeep. Let’s roll.”

After throwing on a dark sweatshirt, Moose followed the brothers to Darius’ black Jeep and slid into the back seat.

“Here, strap this on under your sweatshirt.” Oscar tossed him a Kevlar vest. “You never know.”

Unfortunately, he did know. Too bad they didn’t have a helmet as well.

Moose secured the vest as Darius peeled out onto the highway. Tension in the car was thick with eager anticipation. Oscar tapped a tune on his rifle with his fingers while Darius hummed along.

“I haven’t shot anyone in a while,” Darius said as he flicked a wicked grin in the rearview mirror. “Looking forward to it.”

These guys might have a few screws loose, but they were exactly the type of men Moose wanted at his side while he rescued Daisy.

Hard men.

Fearless men.

Ruthless men.

“We aiming to spare the brother? Or is he fair game as well?”

Clearly, they were all on the same page—Buster’s life ended tonight. If he’d touched Daisy, Moose would make it a slow, agonizing death. “Whatever needs to be done to save Daisy gets done. No one’s life is safe until I get her back.”

“Got it, boss,” Oscar said with a grin.

In the woods, she’d begged him to spare Ricky’s life. He wouldn’t make that mistake again. Whatever had to be done to get Daisy out safe and unharmed would be.

Full stop.

“We’re getting close,” Darius announced a few minutes later.

They turned into a depressed neighborhood.

“We’re on the wrong side of the tracks,” Oscar said.

“It’s that duplex up on the right,” Darius said. He drove past the house and down to the end of the block, where he parked along the side of the road to keep Buster from catching on.

Moose stared out the back window. “There are a couple of lights on in the house and two cars in the driveway. Somebody’s home.”

“You recognize the brother’s car?” Oscar asked.

“No. Never saw it.”

“How do you want to play this? Slick and sly or guns blazing?” Darius killed the engine and plunged them into darkness. One streetlamp at the opposite end of the block provided an insufficient glow—the perfect lighting for surprising the fuck out of someone.

“Guns blazing,” Moose answered without having to think about it. “Not wasting any time being stealth. This doesn’t seem like the type of neighborhood that will call the cops if we’re loud. I say we cause a fucking ruckus.”

“Hell yeah!” Oscar held out a fist, and Moose bumped it.

“Guns blazing it is,” Darius said with a toothy grin. It was obvious the brothers lived for this shit. “I’ll take the back door, you two go front. We’ll see what we have and take it from there.”

Not the most solid plan, but Moose wasn’t worried. These fuckers didn’t stand a chance against a biker whose ol’ lady was being threatened.

And for tonight, at the very least, Daisy was his damn ol’ lady.

CHAPTER TWELVE

BUSTER HADN’T BEEN home.

For a fraction of a second, Daisy had hoped she’d be given time to try another tactic and convince her brother to let her go.

But luck wasn’t on her side.

Pete was in the house.

Pete, who’d hobbled over on crutches to answer the door due to a bullet wound in his thigh courtesy of Moose. As soon as Daisy saw the gleeful grin on his face, her heart sank. There wouldn’t be any talking her way out of his. Pete was happy to admit her and Ricky and called Buster to inform him he had a special delivery.
