Soon, her breathing became shallow, and I knew she had fallen asleep.

I was tired, but I lay awake for a long time, just enjoying the feel of Laurel in my arms. Knowing that she was mine and this was what my future would be like.

I owed the universe a big thank you for snowing me in with my girl.

LAUREL

My body was sore in places I didn’t even know was possible, yet I’d never felt so alive. Sure, I was stuck in a cabin during a snowstorm with limited power, but it was the first time in too long to remember that I’d felt safe. Worshipped. Special.

And it was all due to the man who’d stranded himself with nowhere to stay because he was worried about my safety.

Hayden was in his sweater and jeans, digging through the supplies I’d brought into the cabin from my van. I couldn’t help but stare at the way his body fit into his clothes. Thinking about his muscular frame looked even better when he was naked and above me last night.

My body warmed just remembering his touch. And the mind-blowing orgasms he’d given me. Not to mention the way he called me a good girl.

“Even with just the emergency generator, it looks as though we’re still going to eat well. We can enjoy a gourmet dinner after your relaxing bath,” Hayden said with a smile as he sat beside me.

By “bath,” I assumed he meant when we had to heat a stock pot of snow over the fire to wash up. When we got back to full power, the first thing I was going to do was take a long, hot bath. It’d been forever since I’d had one because I mostly showered at the gym while I was on the road.

And maybe Hayden would join me when I put the cabin’s big tub to good use. The thought sent a shiver down my spine.

“What are you smiling about?” he asked, blinking slowly as a dimpled smile crossed his face.

“Just glad that my old cooking supplies are coming in handy.” Shaking my head, I laughed softly. “Storage space is at a minimum in my van, but I just couldn’t seem to get rid of my kettle or mini cooker. Nostalgia, I guess.”

“Whatever the reason, I’m grateful since the generator only gives us so much power and cooking over a fire limits what I can make for us.”

I continued to stare as he made quick work of putting a meal together. It was the first time a man had cooked for me, and I was enjoying the experience, even if what we ate wasn’t anywhere close to the gourmet dinner that he’d called it.

Ten minutes later, he proved me wrong as he held out a spoon toward me, the smell of aromatic spices tickling my nose.

“You’re going to feed it to me?” I asked, meeting his hungry stare.

“Bite,” he commanded.

Keeping my gaze locked on his, I slowly leaned forward, licking my lips and watching him suck in a deep breath as I did so. Slowly, I took a small bite, allowing the food to hit my tastebuds before letting out the tiniest little moan.

Maybe it was because it was the first thing other than junk food that I had eaten in twenty-four hours, or perhaps it was because I enjoyed the way Hayden’s eyes darkened when I did it. Either way, that little bite was the best thing I’d tasted in a long time.

“Good girl,” he murmured, clasping my cheek with his fingers and running his thumb along my jawline.

I leaned into his touch, my eyes drifting closed as I focused on the feeling of him.

“It’s been so long since I’ve spent the holidays with someone special other than my best friend,” I murmured.

When he was silent, my eyes flew open.

I thought maybe that would be the moment he fled, but instead, his eyes narrowed as he looked at me. “What does that mean?”

I opened and closed my mouth, then shook my head. “I just mean…growing up without parents, I never really did anything for the holidays. It was always just me. Even if we’re stuck in this cabin together with a blizzard swirling around us, I’m glad I get to spend it with you.”

He leaned forward, his breath a whisper on my lips. “You’re never going to spend another holiday alone, do you understand? You’re much too special for that. And now that you’re mine, I’m going to make sure you know exactly how you should be worshipped. Not just on the holidays but every day after.”

I swallowed hard but didn’t have time to respond. He set the food aside and wrapped his arms around me, crushing his lips to mine as he kissed me deeply.

I could have kept kissing him forever, but what came next was even better. He pulled us closer to the fire before slowly peeling off my sweater, leaving my upper half bare since I hadn’t bothered with a bra this morning.
