“Babe,” Core growled.

“I’m done with them, all right? Both of them,” I snapped. “Yeesh. You were right. I shouldn’t have dropped by. Obviously, the silent treatment was hiding something, oh wise soul. Oh biker guru. I should have listened to you.”

“You are so getting spanked tonight,” he muttered.

I rolled my eyes. “Like that’s a threat.”

“Catwoman, we’ve played, but we haven’t gotten as serious as I can get, and I promise you, your claws are no match for me.”

Wow.

That sounded promising.

I smirked at the windshield. “We’ll see.”

“Yeah, we will,” he purred.

Man, he could cause a clit spasm even when he was being exasperating.

Whatever.

We made it to the clubhouse without him further vexing me, and the nerves came back, more than ever.

This wasn’t going to be just the brothers. Their old ladies were going to be there too, and I hadn’t met any of them yet.

This was like Core having to meet a dozen Andys and Moms and Lianes all at once.

He parked and turned to me.

“They’re gonna love you.”

“How do you know?”

“Because I love you.”

He dropped that bomb, threw opened his door and knifed out.

I threw mine open too and dropped down, Nanook coming with me.

Core was strolling around the hood of the truck like he hadn’t just rocked my world.

I was staring at him in shock.

He took my hand and started dragging me to the doors of his clubhouse.

I planted my feet, skidded a bit, he stopped and looked back at me.

“Don’t think you can lay that on me and then just take me to a party,” I informed him.

He moved into me, held my hand tight, cupped my jaw and dropped his face to mine.

“You have that. You give it back when and if you feel it. But until that time, you know you have it from me. And now, can I go get a beer?”

“I’ve never been in love,” I told him.

His gaze grew guarded. “All right.”

“Still, I know I feel that for you.”

His gaze became something else.

And then he said, “Thanks for that, though I knew it with the way you suck my dick.”

I felt my eyes get huge, I pushed his chest with my free hand and stepped back.

He started laughing, yanked on my arm, I collided with him, and he bent me over his arm and laid a long, wet one on me.

We made out for a while in front of his clubhouse, and when we finally surfaced, he asked, “Now can I have a beer?”

I rolled my eyes.

He shot me his Hollywood smile, whistled for Nanook, who was exploring, and pulled me in to meet his family, his dog following.

Once inside, my eyes became adjusted only for me to become surprised, because it was lit. Pool tables and awesome leather furniture and an amazing bar.

I didn’t know what I was expecting, maybe something worn in and a little dodgy but in a cool way, like the Chaos Compound.

This was not that at all.

People were looking at us.

I clocked Marcy and Kyra already at seats at the bar, Beck behind it, talking to them, and I was about to pull Core that way to start my meet and greet easy when Core called out to my friends, “Bryan and Bree are fucking.”

My chest collapsed.

What was he doing?

He knew Marcy!

Marcy’s eyes got so big in her head, I thought they’d pop out.

Kyra looked sick.

Then Marcy screeched, “What!?”

Core took us that way, explaining (loudly), “Hellen dropped by to give her the stuff we retrieved, and Bryan opened the door.”

“Oh my fucking God!” Marcy shouted.

I darted my eyes around.

We totally had onlookers, and those onlookers, it appeared, were every breathing being in the place.

Including Nanook.

“Marce, calm down,” I mumbled.

“Calm down?” she asked. “Are you shitting me?”

“This can’t be,” Kyra said in a small voice.

Marcy’s head swung to her, and that was when she blew her stack (no, the other shouting wasn’t Marcy blowing her stack, as would prove true in five seconds).

She hopped off the barstool, stabbing at her phone.

I pulled my hand free from Core’s, shooting him a scorching glare that should have made his hair catch fire, and moved to Marcy.

She was pacing with the phone to her ear.

“Marce—” I tried.

“Yeah, bitch,” she snapped, took the phone from her ear, and stabbed it again. “You better believe I’m calling.”

“I can’t do this right now. It’s been a shitty day,” Bree whined over the speaker.

“No shit? Your girl comes over to hand you the cash that was stolen from you and her man put himself out there to get back for you and she finds out you’re banging her ex who’s been her ex for like…a day?”

“It hasn’t been a day,” Bree returned.

“No, no, no, no, no,” Marcy chanted. “Sister Book states quite clearly that the statute of limitations to move in on a woman’s ex is at least a year, two if you’re going for sister sainthood, and you’re fucking him now?” Marcy looked to a woman who was sitting in a man’s lap, smiling at her, and she asked, “Am I right?”
