But man. I never thought I’d have her in my bed so fast, so if we have to wait until we can be truly alone, then I can wait.

“You sure you don’t mind? About waiting, I mean,” she whispers after a while, turning her head as I shake mine gently.

“Just tell me your mine, Jen. Tell me you want me as badly as I want you, and it’ll see me through until whenever you’re ready,” I tell her.

She pulls my hands up with hers, resting them under her chin, sighing as she tells me what I’ve longed to hear.

“I’m all yours, Kane. Tonight, and any other night you want,” she smiles.

Both of us relax into each other. Our fingers tracing the others’ until I feel hers go limp.

Her breathing is slow, and her mouth set in a perfect, gratified smile as she falls asleep in my arms.

CHAPTER NINE

Jen

I’m not sure which makes me jump-start awake more.

Knowing I’ve fallen asleep in Kane’s bed after he’s eaten me to a perfect series of orgasms, and still in it once it’s morning.

Or the shrieking from outside as Abby lets the whole world know that she’s got the part for her New York job.

The maybe job that looks like the key to Kane’s and my perfect happiness is not right this minute.

Not until she’s out of the house and well on her way to New York.

For now, I have to find a way to get out of Kane’s room before she comes barging in, which I know she does a lot.

But noticing Kane isn’t even in his bed, or the room only increases my panic.

I scramble out of his bed, pausing just long enough with a little smile when I spot my torn, soaked panties on Kane’s pillow.

They’re useless to me now, but something tells me Kane might want to hang onto those. For a little while, at least.

I slide back into my pajamas and listen at the door, I can hear hurricane Abby still upstairs, shouting her news as well as my name.

I make a direct line for the safest room in the house, the kitchen.

Running headlong into the man I have to keep up appearances with for just a little longer.

“Morning,” Kane chuckles as I look up at him.

Feeling wide-eyed with terror until he smiles, holding my face with his hand and leaning down to kiss me.

“She’ll be down any minute,” he whispers, letting me know this one kiss might be it for a while.

So I oblige him by giving him the kind of good morning kiss that probably shows how inexperienced I really am, but it only makes Kane swell with satisfaction.

“I was gonna fix us some breakfast,” he remarks, rolling his eyes.

Smiling to himself as he hears his daughter’s antics. Happy for her but happier now he knows he’s staked his claim on me.

Making sure he holds me as long as he can before we both hear Abby’s steps making their way down to the kitchen.

“Kane? I…,” I begin, feeling like telling him I love him is the only thing to say right now, but something stops me.

That inexperienced virgin in me, I guess.

I have no idea what I’m doing so far, and I don’t want to blow it by getting all mushy on Kane.

Especially right now.

“We can talk later,” Kane says firmly, the smile vanishing from his face.

Yesterday it might have hurt, but today I know it’s only to protect us all from the nuclear fallout that would happen if Abby knew.

She can’t find out. Not yet, anyhow.

But it’s clear that my and her dad’s little secret is the furthest thing from her mind once she makes a frantic entrance into the kitchen.

She looks like she hasn’t slept a wink, giving me a stab of anxiety until I remind myself that Abby’s never been a morning person either.

Her wild, tossing and turning bed hair, mixed with her twisting expression as she fights to get words out telling me that I’m not the only one who had an interesting night last night.

Glad I didn’t spend it in the bed next to her. By the looks, I wouldn’t have gotten much sleep anyway.

“Jen, where have you been? I’ve been calling you for ages,” Jen clips, turning her focus from me to her dad in her next short and swift breath.

“And Dad? I need a ride to the airport. Like right now,” she orders him, narrowing her eyes and giving him such a stern look I can’t help wondering if maybe she did overhear us last night.

But Kane’s a pro when it comes to handling his daughter, and I’m sure he’s seen and heard way more of her theatrics than I ever have.

“Okay, okay. Just calm down, Abby. We’ll get you to the airport. But how about you bring me up to speed on what’s happening first?” Kane asks, eying the plates of food he’s been busy preparing for breakfast.
