I should’ve told him right away, but I was scared.
“It’s okay,” he said, smiling huge. “I can’t tell you how happy I am.”
“Really?” I felt a lump in my throat. “You never seemed like you wanted kids.”
“Of course I want kids. I want a family with you.”
I leaned against him and kissed him. He wrapped his strong arms around me, pulling me against his chest. I stayed there, feeling tears run down my cheeks, but tears of joy.
“I want that too.”
“So I’d better get a job, right? Sales would be good for now. I’ll find something else I like better sooner or later. Or, hell, maybe I’ll open a private security company.”
“That’s not a bad idea.”
“Maybe I’ll become a locksmith.”
I laughed and kissed his chest. “Whatever you want.”
“No, Amber.” He tilted my chin up. “Whatever you want. I mean that.”
“I know you do.”
I kissed him, long and slow.
Our little paradise. I was pregnant with his baby, and we were going to start a new life on this island so far away from all that other shit. I hadn’t heard from the Leone family since we left, and I never wanted to. As far as I was concerned, I was dead to everyone back home, my father included.
Because our here, I could finally be my own person. I could be free with the man I loved, no baggage, nothing holding me back.
I kissed him one more time and smiled out over the trees, one hand resting on my belly.
