“I get that,” I responded. “That’s kind of what my ex, Kristin, did to Nova and I. I do eventually want there to be another woman around Nova though. She deserves that.” I was internally hoping that woman could be Jordan; Nova already loved her so much.

“I have dated here and there, but never found anything I was really interested in, so I just focused on school more than guys. I suppose none of them were really my type,” Jordan said.

I tilted my head to the side. “So, what’s your type?” I really wasn’t trying to find answers, but since the opportunity had presented itself, why wouldn’t I take it?

Jordan shrugged. “I don’t know. Someone who has their life together. I hate trying to teach a man how to be a man. I just want someone mature. Someone like…” Jordan looked up and her eyes locked into mine. Her voice trailed off and in a split second I knew…

…I may end up breaking the rules.

Maybe it was the liquor in me, but my whole body was hot all over, and it felt like I was going to melt. Cade was so sexy I didn’t know what to do with myself, or him. I thought he was beautiful when he was all done up in his suits for work, but seeing him dressed down, with a full view of his muscular arms and slender, fit form was something else. Even being more slim as opposed to muscular, I was certain he could manhandle me in a way that would drive me wild.

My head had been nothing but a haze for the past week working with a group of such gorgeous men, and it didn’t help that it seemed they found me attractive too. I’d caught little glimpses of the way the guys were watching me since I started working. Rogan had made no attempts to hide it at all when he tucked my hair behind my ear back in his office the weekend prior. I knew that if I’d let him, he would have taken me down to the floor and fucked me senseless, but he was the father of one of my new kids, and I needed to keep my dignity in tact.

That sentiment was failing me as I stared at Cade and imagined his hands all over me. Would he even do it if I asked him to? Apart from the few mentions each of the guys had made in their letters about their kids, none of them had mentioned their former wives and girlfriends at all. For that matter, none of them had even mentioned women. For as good looking, intelligent, and wealthy as they all were, I expected to see women coming and going all day every day. I was shocked that none of them had remarried or were even dating. I was curious to learn more about what their romantic lives were like, and it seemed like the current moment, with Cade and I each a little boozed up, was the perfect opportunity.

“Can I ask you something?” I began.

Cade’s dark eyes shot into mine. “Anything.” The way he said it sent a wave of chills washing over my skin.

“I feel like I know so much about the kids already, but I don’t know much about the dads. I haven’t heard you guys speak much about women or anything like that. Are any of you dating?” I prodded.

Cade shook his head. There was a flicker of something hidden in his eyes. “Nope. After our separations and divorces, we decided to dedicate our lives to our jobs and to our children.”

I tilted my head to the side. It wasn’t just that Cade didn’t appear to be a very good liar, and it was clear he was holding something back, but it was also that I simply couldn’t sign onto the idea that some of Texas’ finest weren’t seeing any women in any capacity. That just didn’t make sense.

“I don’t believe you,” I replied.

Cade chuckled. “What’s not to believe? You know our full schedules and have keys to our homes. Besides, you spend tons of time with our kids. Have you heard any of them talk about a woman?”

I hunched my brow. “No, but it doesn’t make sense.”

“What?” Cade asked with a sly smile.

I scoffed. “You’re going to make me say it, aren’t you?”

Cade stuck the spoon he was eating his ice cream with into his mouth and slowly pulled it from his mouth, licking it as he went. My groin tingled thinking about what else he might be able to do with his tongue. “I don’t know what you mean.”

I rolled my eyes. “Come on, you’re clearly all very attractive men. I just can’t believe that none of you are seeing any women. I doubt you became celibate.”

Jordan poked at his ice cream. He was really bad at hiding his true nature. “I mean…” Then he shook his head. “Nothing.”
