“Gabriel—” I started to say, but just then the lights went out.

We had been there for hours by then so the sudden darkness came as a shock.

“Oh!” I gasped and Christopher stiffened behind me.

“What the fuck?” I heard Gabriel growl.

“Lights out,” a voice called from the other side of the door. “Everyone must sleep and don’t forget there’s a guard outside your door so don’t try anything.”

It was Lupio again, I thought. Clearly he had decided it was our bedtime.

“Fuck you!” Gabriel snarled, but there was no answer and nothing else happened.

After a little while, my eyes got used to the gloom and I realized there was still a dim strip of light on the floor, coming from the long, narrow window. This time, however, it had a silvery quality to it.

“Moonlight,” Christopher murmured in my ear and Gabriel went to stand by the window and look out at the desert.

“Fuck—if only the moon was completely full,” he growled.

“Even if it was and we could Shift, we’d still be locked in here,” Christopher pointed out. He drew me closer and rubbed his big, warm hands up and down my bare arms. “You okay, sweetheart?”

“I think so.” I leaned my head back against his shoulder with a sigh. “Should we try to get some sleep? Maybe we could lay on our sides like…like we did when we were all staying together in Gabriel’s room?”

“Sure, Little Sis.” Christopher got us into position, still keeping me as close to his big body as possible. His warm chest felt good against my back, but the front of me was still cold.

“Brrr!” I shivered and pressed closer to him, but lying on the chilly tile floor as we were, I just couldn’t get warm.

“Gabe, come help me,” Christopher called. “Come on—she’s going to freeze to death.”

I saw my older stepbrother’s big form looming over us indecisively in the darkness. Then he swore in Spanish and laid down beside me, putting his broad back to my shivering front.

“Thank you,” I whispered in his ear as his body heat began to warm me up.

“You wouldn’t be so susceptible to the cold if you’d had a full Heat Cycle,” Gabriel growled.

“If she’d had a full Heat Cycle, we would have had to breed her to keep her from getting sick,” Christopher pointed out, his warm breath puffing against the side of my face.

“True.” Gabriel reached for my arm and pulled it over his ribcage. I could feel him entwining our fingers, just as Christopher had done earlier. “This is all we can do,” he added, turning his head to talk to both me and Christopher. “We can’t go any further than just keeping Zoe warm.”

“We went a lot further before,” Christopher pointed out. As he spoke, his hand slipped under my arm and stroked the side of my right breast. It was a questioning gesture, as though he was asking if what he was doing was all right.

In answer, I shifted a little so that I was no longer pressing directly against Gabriel’s back. Christopher’s long fingers slid in to cup my breast more fully and he slowly began circling the tight peak of my nipple.

I tried to stifle the soft moan that came from my lips. Despite the fact that we were captives and I had no idea of what the future held, my stepbrother’s touch still stirred me.

“I can feel what you’re doing back there, you know,” Gabriel growled, though he made no move to stop us. “You need to stop that kind of shit—you’ll only form bonds that hurt to be broken later.”

“We’ve already formed a bond during the days and nights we helped Zoe through her partial Heat Cycle,” Christopher said. “Can’t you feel it, Gabe? The three of us are halfway to becoming a Triad.”

Gabriel stiffened.

“The only way to become a Triad is to fuck—is for both of us to breed Zoe and shoot our seed inside her at the same time.”

“I know. So?” Christopher said defiantly.

“So? So, she’s our little sister, idiota! And we’re brothers. I told you before—you don’t form a Triad with your siblings!”

“And I told you before that we’re not really blood related!” Christopher said. “Come on, Gabe—you can’t tell me you don’t feel the beginnings of a bond between us,” he added in a coaxing voice.

“I always feel a kind of tingle when I’m between you two—touching both of you at once,” I offered. “Is that what you’re talking about, Christopher?”

I could feel him nodding behind me.

“Yes—exactly. That tingle of connection. It only happens when an Alpha, a Beta, and an Omega who are meant to be together touch. Can’t you feel it, Gabe?” he asked.

“I feel nothing,” Gabriel growled, but he shifted uncomfortably and I wondered if he was lying.

“Um…I have a question,” I said. “How could you, uh, you know—breed me at the same time?”
