For the second time today, I swoon, and my jaw drops. “How do you possibly remember that date?”

“I never forget anything when it comes to you, little rose.” He kisses me harder now, slipping his tongue between the seam of my lips to rub against my own. His hands have bunched my dress up around my hips, and then he pulls it up and off, tossing it to the side, the way I did all those years ago.

Except, this time, I’m not wearing any underwear.

“Fucking hell,” he growls. “I’m one lucky son of a bitch.”

“You’re not lucky.” I grind over him, then open his jeans and set him free, rubbing my hand up and down until I line him up with my entrance and sink over him. “You’re my soulmate, husband. There’s no luck involved here.”

“Rosie.” It’s a whisper on his lips as I wrap my arms around his neck, and his hands grip on to my hips, and we start to move. “Jesus, you’re everything.”

“And you’re the reason my heart beats.”

EPILOGUE

BRIDGER BLACKWELL

God, I’m fucking tired.

I’m coming off of forty-eight straight hours of being on call at the firehouse. As the chief, you’d think I would have a regular nine-to-five job, but that’s not the case in this small department. I manage everything, and I fight fires.

But I’m also a single dad.

So I’m going to go inside and send my sister home for the evening, and tomorrow, my daughter and I are going to start gearing up for her first day of school.

Which starts next week.

Because I’ve been too busy and haven’t had time to get it done before now, which really makes me feel like shit. Not that my daughter ever makes me feel guilty; I do a good enough job of that all by myself.

I park in the driveway and climb out of my truck, just as I hear a door open behind me, and I close my eyes. I can feel her before I even know for sure that it’s her. Dani Lexington, coming out of her house, to do what, I have no idea because it’s past dark.

I turn around, and sure enough. There she is, with her long, dark hair, blue eyes, and killer curves that seem to star in all of my fucking dreams lately. She hasn’t noticed me yet, and I take her in. She’s in shorts that mold around her ass perfectly and show off her fucking amazing legs, and a V-neck T-shirt that dips only low enough to give me a glimpse at the very top of her cleavage.

That woman’s curves set my teeth on edge, and I quickly adjust myself in my jeans.

Goddamn it, I’ve wanted her for half of my life, and I couldn’t have her. Either she was too young or at college or…something. The timing was never right. Now, she’s back in Bitterroot Valley, living across the fucking street from me, taunting me at every turn.

She glances up, then does a double-take when she sees me, and that tentative smile spreads over her lips. I miss the days of her giving me her bright, uncensored smiles.

“Hey,” she says.

“Hey, Dani.” I offer her a smile and wonder what it’s going to take for her to realize that friendship isn’t the only thing I want with her. “Did you have a good day?”

“I did, actually.” She nods and tucks her hair behind her ear. “How about you?”

Fuck, she’s beautiful.

“No complaints here. I’d better get inside to Birdie.”

She bites her lower lip and frowns down at the concrete beneath her bare feet. Then, right before my eyes, she squares her shoulders, swallows hard, and lifts her chin.

Good girl. Ask me to come back outside to sit with you. To talk. To put my hands on you.

But she seemingly decides to forgo whatever she was going to say, and I feel that familiar frustration fill my gut.

“I hope you have a good night,” is all she says.

Fuck, living across from her is going to be torture unless I get my head out of my ass and do something about it.

“You, too, Dani.”

I walk inside and close the door behind me, a plan starting to take shape in my head.
