It didn’t take long for Raine to enter the room, which he expected. To get from the laundry room, she had to pass the dining room. The moment she caught sight of him, she stopped.

“Evening, Raine,” he said. “I wanted you to know Lake is settled and was already fast asleep before I left.”

Bringing up his niece was a blow. He’d noticed Raine always softened and relaxed at the mention of his niece. Max wasn’t a successful businessman for nothing. First of all, he had Dylan, and when the guy wasn’t thinking with his dick, then they made a very good team. Second of all, he knew how to read people. He understood them, and with that, he found out their weaknesses.

One of Raine’s many weaknesses was Lake.

“She had an amazing day today. Ever since I picked her up, she’d been talking nonstop about this Halloween thing that some friend’s parents are organizing. I think it’s like a sleepover or something.”

“On Halloween?”

“No, just before Halloween, I think.” She smiled. “Lake has talked nonstop about it, but she has also talked about getting a dog. She happened to see one of the rescue commercials, and since then, she has wanted a dog.”

“She is a sweetheart, just like my sister.” It wasn’t accurate for him to say that. His sister was many things, but nice only when she needed to be. “So, other than taking care of Lake, how has your day been?”

“I’ve been very busy. I organized and filed the paperwork you wanted me to. Posted all the letters you left me, cleaned the house.”

“Any of your hobby?”

“Not much in the way of sewing,” she said, smiling.

He loved seeing that smile. It was so beautiful. So … natural. He’d been with women who’d learned the fine art of lying. Life had beaten them down until all remnants of happiness had been sucked from them.

Raine wasn’t like that. She wasn’t virginal, which he was glad about. When he thought about fucking Raine, he wasn’t the kind of guy to go easy. He liked to fuck hard, fast, and it was always intense. Not that he couldn’t make love, but Raine fired his blood like no one else.

He took a bite of food and closed his eyes, releasing a growl. “This is just fantastic.”

There was the blush he adored so much.

“Thank you.”

Dylan chose that moment to enter the dining room, clearing his throat. “Am I missing anything?” He took a seat opposite Raine.

Max watched her face darken even more with a deeper shade of red that would give a strawberry a run for its money.

“I have to go and clean up.”

“Raine, please, eat something,” Max said.

“I have already eaten. I think it’s a force of habit to set myself a space. I’ll go and do some dishes. Please, enjoy.”

Max couldn’t think of a single thing to say to make her stay.

“Fuck! What did I do?” Dylan asked.

“I think you set the groundwork that we could build on.”

He felt his friend’s gaze on him. “Excuse me?”

“Oh, come on, you think I don’t know that you want our little nanny almost as much as I do? She’s the one, I can feel it. Our one.”

“You want her?” Dylan asked.

“More than you could have imagined.”

Max had been fighting him for weeks about Raine. Knowing his best friend wanted her as well gave Dylan hope. In the kitchen, she had shown real signs of wanting him. Up until that moment, Dylan couldn’t have been sure of anything, but then she had moaned, and the sounds were intoxicating as they came from her lips.

She’d been soft against him, and now, just the memory of it was enough to make him hard as rock.

He’d already gone to the bathroom where he took a quick shower, and he’d dealt with matters in his own way, stroking his cock until he came, spilling his seed into the bottom of the bathtub.

It wasn’t exactly the ending he’d wanted, but in a short space of time, it had done the trick.

Now, he wanted her again.

In fact, with every passing day, his need for her grew. It was almost at a fever pitch and showed no signs of fading. His need for her was so fucking strong.

They finished their dinner. Raine came in to take their plates and said her goodnights. Dylan followed Max’s approach. They’d been business partners for many years, and because of it, he had seen the deals Max had gotten. When Max set his sights on what he wanted, there was no stopping him until he got it, and that meant they would get Raine. He had no doubt.

They retired to their office.

Dylan took the whiskey that was offered, even though he was a brandy man. The whiskey wouldn’t distract him from the business meeting he felt he was about to attend.
