“Marjorie. She’s so desperate for Jack’s cock it’s disturbing.” He shudders again.

Raising a brow, I wait for him to elaborate.

Placing his hands on his hips, he halts and furrows his eyebrows at me. “She’s trying to entice him into her bed. It’s like listening to someone’s mom trying to get laid,” he grumbles, throwing his ass back into the seat and picking up the headset.

“Is Jack going with it?” I ask, waggling my eyebrows and giving Seb a wink.

Shaking his head, he clicks on sound to come through the computer just as Jack begins explaining he’s not ready to take that step.

“When I am, you know it will be with you. I need time.” Jack’s baritone voice filters into the room.

“Six years, Jack. She would want you to heal and love again,” Marjorie tells him, and suddenly the air feels thick in the room. I squirm a little in my seat. It feels intrusive listening in on them for the first time since Zac placed the bugs.

“It’s not just about me. I have Clove and the public to think about too, Marjorie. You know all this.”

“We don’t have to make it public right away, and Clove is an adult.”

“Enough. We’ve already discussed this. Get me into the White House, and I’ll make you First Lady. We’re not there yet, and I’m the only one who’s been doing what’s needed to get us there.”

My eyes cut to Sebastian, who glares right back at me.

“Good night, Marjorie.”

“Night, Jack.”

Sebastian slams his hand down on the desk, making the equipment rock. An alarm sounds suddenly on the security monitor of our property, drawing both our attention.

“Boundary breach,” Sebastian snaps, bringing up the cameras for outside.

“Animal?” I query.

“Rachel,” he growls, clicking to the cameras inside the house.

Zac is up at the front door, gun drawn with Clove standing behind Ford in the living room, all eyes on the front door. Marching out of the room, Sebastian is like a dragon about to breathe fire. It’s past midnight and this bitch is proving she can’t take a fucking hint. All week she’s been making excuses to have Sebastian and Zac running around after her—a flat tire, a gas leak, anything she could think of to get them to her place.

Luckily, Ford and I kept our little sweetness preoccupied, so she hasn’t noticed. She’s going to fucking notice her at the front door at midnight, though.

Fuck.

Being wrapped up in the arms of Ford while Zac massaged my feet on the couch in a cuddle fest movie night was bliss until a weird beeping alarm sounded through the house, making both Ford and Zac almost catapult me from their hold to draw their weapons. Zac moved toward the front door while Ford ushered me behind him, backing me against a wall. And now we’re all just standing rigid like a hellhound is about to burst through the front door.

Sebastian comes barreling down the hallway, his face a storm of anguish with Leo hot on his tail.

“It’s Rachel. Relax,” he grunts.

Ford snorts, clicking the safety on his gun, and tucks it in the back of his jeans—moving me to allow me to sidle up next to his side instead of his ass. His strong arm wraps around me, and we both train our gazes on Zac opening the door as Rachel pours inside on unsteady feet.

Throwing herself at him, her arms snake around his neck. Viper. Her face burrows into his chest like she has permission to be that intimate with him. My heart stampedes in my chest at their contact, ice water flushing through my veins reminding me that she knew my guys way before I did. I want to go over there, yank her off him, and toss her back out the door. I get a little satisfaction from the fact he doesn’t reciprocate her affection. Instead, his eyes cut to mine across the room, a deep frown marring his forehead.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Sebastian demands, his tone cutthroat, making Rachel step away from Zac and drop her eyes to her feet.

“Someone followed me home. I got scared. I didn’t know what to do,” she says, sniffling.

“Where from?”

“The bar. It’s the only night a week my mom gives me a break from—”

“Is Joey on the grounds?” Seb cuts her off, making her look up at him and nod.

“Motherfucker,” Zac growls.

As if her words summoned this Joey person, another figure appears at the front door. Rachel rushes around Zac and pushes herself against Sebastian like she belongs there with him. I try to tell myself my jealousy is irrational, but it doesn’t stop my fist tightening in Ford’s shirt. His grip tightens around me, and he plants a kiss to the top of my head.

“Rach, are you in there?” the man shouts, tapping on the window of the front door before walking inside.
