Stud stood next to Bear, waiting for Sex Piston. Travis Shepherd walked by with a group of the bikers, smiling.
“What are you still hanging around for, Wyatt? I already got the phone number you wouldn’t take from the trophy girl. It’s too late to change your mind.”
Stud laughed, shaking the hand Travis held out to him. They stood talking for several minutes about their machines.
Stud saw it in their eyes when he lost their attention.
“Who is that?” Travis said, making sure the sun glinted on his second place trophy.
Stud didn’t turn around, enjoying watching the men’s reaction.
“You ready, Stud?” Sex Piston came to his side, her hand sliding around his waist. Leaning up, she took his mouth in a kiss that had him almost handing her the trophy. Her lips broke from his, making him wish they weren’t two hours away from home.
“Travis, see you next race.”
“Aren’t you going to introduce us?” Travis asked, giving Sex Piston a practiced smile that she ignored.
“No.” Taking Sex Piston’s hand, he gave Bear his instructions for getting the bike back safely.
Sex Piston went to the truck. Climbing in, she slid over so that she could sit close to him. Unlike his first wife, Sex Piston enjoyed watching him race, but she never gave the other riders the time of day.
She had eventually found out that he wasn’t working at Powell’s. He was just using his garage to build the custom bike he would eventually sell. His bikes were becoming well known, but he would only sell a couple a year. The one he had won on today was one he had built.
“Stud, do you know who sells Shade his weed?”
Her question had him pausing with the key in the ignition. “No. Why?”
“Because Ma and Diamond are either nuts or high,” Sex Piston said, trying not to show him how upset she was getting.
Stud leaned back in his seat, turning toward her. “Why do you think that?”
“Because Diamond brought us all bug out bags yesterday and then Ma just told me that my grandmother was named Norma and was a big star. They have to be getting bad weed, don’t you think? They both can’t be nuts, Stud.”
Stud almost laughed, but stopped when he saw she was getting more upset. “What does it matter if they are both nuts? As long as you’re not, that’s all that counts.” He thought that would make her feel better, but it only made it worse.
Sex Piston threw him a pissed off look. “Because shit like that is heredity.”
“What does that…?” This time Stud looked closer at Sex Piston, noticing her breasts were peeking higher out of her clothes than usual. The Star tat she had placed on her breast was more obvious. He could even make out Meri and Keri’s names within the half moons on the other side of the star.
“Sex Piston, are you…?”
“I’m trying to tell you I’m knocked up and I’m afraid our baby is going to be nuttier than a fruitcake,” Sex Piston wailed.
Stud turned the truck on, putting it in gear.
“We going home?”
“Yes, but first we’re going to pay Shade a visit.”
