It’s going to be awhile before I can track these motherfuckers down, but I will recover and get my revenge. They were stupid. They left me alive. It will be longer than I like, but one day I will make them regret their stupidity.

I’m going to kill them all.

GRACE

“That’s him! That’s the one I saw attacking Dr. Brashear when I called you!” the receptionist yells to the cop that is questioning Seven.

What a mess! I can feel the tension, rolling off of my man in waves. I look around the lobby, feeling useless. I know Seven’s upset because he didn’t want to leave Scar’s body alone. They should have contained the office staff before attacking Scar. I sigh.

Great thinking, Gracie. Only if Scar had arrived and found no staff, he would have been tipped off.

Oh… Well, shit on a stick.

I can feel Seven’s laughter in my mind, and it feels really good.

I love you, Gracie. Stop worrying. We will contain this.

I love you, too.

“Where is Dr. Brashear now?” the cop asks the receptionist.

“He never came out! I think that guy killed him,” she claims, pointing to Seven.

I can’t let her plant that seed in the cop’s mind. I need to help him. “He did not,” I tell the cop. “I saw Dr. Brashear, alive and well. He left just a few moments ago.”

“And who are you?” he asks, flipping to a new page in his notebook.

“She’s one of Dr. Brashear’s patients. She had an appointment this morning.”

“I did and I’m extremely upset. I watched him leave with some woman. When I reminded him that we had an appointment, he said I’d need to find another doctor that he was returning home. Right before the elevator door closed and he went down to the lobby, I heard the woman with him say they needed to hurry before the police found them and discovered he was a fake.

I watch the cop’s eyes narrow. I might be laying it on thick, but maybe this will help them locate the real Dr. Brashear.

“Are you sure that’s what he said?” he asks. “Is there any way you might have misheard?”

“No, I’m positive that he said that. They were walking onto the elevator in front of his office, just as I was getting out to sign in for my appointment.”

“You should listen to her. Grace has a bad habit of showing up at the wrong time,” Seven says, giving me a resigned look, letting me know he doesn’t like me inserting myself here with the cops.

“You know this woman?” the cop asks.

“Yeah, I know her. I’m going to spank her ass later,” Seven says, side eyeing me before turning back to the officer.

“Maybe we should all go downtown and discuss this,” he says, and I lift my gaze to look at Seven, feeling panic surge through me.

The cop turns to another. “Martinez, check out the office while I take these two downtown.”

“Before you do that. Maybe you should talk to my brother. He can explain everything.”

“Your brother?” the cop asks, looking confused. I guess I would be too if I were him.

“Your turn, Oracle,” Seven mutters as he takes my hand. He practically drags me into the office before anyone can stop us. Once we get out of ear shot, he spins around to face me. Daggers are practically shooting from his eyes. “Didn’t we agree you were going to stay home, Grace?”

“You needed me, and I knew I could distract Scar, giving you a chance,” I tell him, holding up my hand to silence him as he opens his mouth again. “If you will be honest, you have to admit you did need me, Seven.”

He growls under his breath. My body reacts to him in such a visceral way that I’m getting wet—even when he’s clearly not trying to arouse me. He can be mad, but I don’t care. I’m not stupid. I could have lost my mate tonight. He’s hurt, but he’s alive and I’m part of the reason that’s true. That’s all that matters. Just the thought causes a shiver to roll through me as I follow him back into the building. When we get on the elevators, I take a breath and look at Seven with a smile.

“Did you notice these mirrors? That could be interesting. If sex on an airplane gets you into the mile high club, what does sex in an elevator do?” I ask him, moving my hand over one of the glass panels.

“Quit being cute, Gracie. It won’t help you. You and I are going to have this out when we get home,” he grumbles as the doors slide open and he steps out. I follow him with a sigh. I wasn’t trying to get cute. I was trying to get laid, but I guess now is not the time. I try to push the thoughts out of my head and concentrate on the here and now. I follow him into the office and walk to the doctor’s office. Seven let’s out a pissed off sound before yelling. “What the actual fuck?”
