“It is. We’re going to get him, Gracie. I don’t want him to be a threat to you any longer. I couldn’t live with myself if you got hurt. Fuck, I couldn’t live period. I need to protect you and keep you safe.”

“Seven, you understand that I’m still…” I flounder for the words.

“Grace, watching Oracle today, there’s one thing that has become crystal clear to me.”

“What’s that?”

“You are where I belong, and I think you know that you belong with me too.”

I know he’s speaking the truth, but the way he says it has me feeling very exposed.

“I don’t need you to answer me. I know that if you didn’t truly feel that way, I wouldn’t be in your bed right now,” Seven says with a smirk.

“Maybe, but that doesn’t mean I fully trust you either.”

“I can see that, but we don’t know how much time we have together,” he says. I don’t like what he’s saying but if this Scar is as dangerous as they say… I sigh. There’s a very real possibility that our time together could be limited.

“I don’t want to talk about this.”

“I understand that, but we need to be realistic. Look at Lucy. I don’t know how long she’s been the way she is, but I would venture to say it was before Oracle was captured by Draven and Scar.”

“Why do you think that?”

“Because there’s no way they could have subdued him otherwise.”

There’s still a lot of about what took place with the others that I’m trying to understand. What details Oracle has given me don’t complete the picture and none of the others are happy to share it with me. I get the distinct feeling that it’s not that they want to keep me in the dark, but they don’t want to dredge up ugly memories.

“Draven might have been older than Four, but not by and Four had been mated and honed his power. That’s a task that Scar or Draven couldn’t do. They’re temperamental and too impatient to harness it fully.”

“That makes sense,” I tell him as I think it over. Being power hungry would leave the person twisted to the point they want more and more. Taking what they want would be easier to them than actually concentrating on what they have and trying to fine tune it. “I want to help Oracle so much, Seven, but I’m worried we won’t be able to reach Lucy. Oracle and Lucy both believed that I am like her. They thought I could have the same abilities that she does, but what if they’re wrong? I don’t really have parents I can quiz about this shit. It’s still hard for me to believe that I’m in this supernatural world now. I mean I’m a struggling waitress who can barely afford rent, damn it.”

Seven slides his hand behind my neck, pulling me closer to kiss my lips softly, nibbling on my bottom lip playfully. “I need to kiss you, Gracie.”

“We’re playing with fire, Seven,” I warn him, leaning into the kiss.

“And it feels damn good,” he says as he swipes his tongue across my lip before pushing into my mouth. The kiss deepens and his tongue clashes with mine. My body fills with a molten heat as I push into him. I think he’s going to feed my hunger but instead, he pulls back. My lungs burn as I take a ragged breath.

“If you don’t want me, you need to say so now, while I can still stop.”

“This doesn’t mean I forgive you for lying to me,” I warn, feeling like an idiot. I’m just using the words as a defense mechanism at this point, and I think we both know it.

“If we do this it means you accept that we are mates, Gracie. You will fully step into my world. No more secrets, full transparency and I can swear to you that it will be you and me against the world from here on out.”

I exhale a shaky breath as I listen to him and think it over. I’ll be in his world. I mean, I’m already at that point, but he’s making it clear that this is forever. “You kind of make it sound like I’m agreeing to marriage instead of sleeping with you, Seven.”

Seven nods. “You’re agreeing to the mating bond because I need to fully claim you. I don’t have that kind of willpower it would take to hold back. I want us to belong to one another, but it’s more than that. With Scar out there, our bond will protect you and I need that almost as much as I need you. I need you completely. What I can promise you is that I will spend the rest of my life proving to you that you will never regret being with me.”
