“That was just rude. I’m going to go tell Daddy on them.” He threw up his hands. “All of them. Daddy is going to be very disappointed in them.”

He wasn’t wrong.

He was, however, a very good friend.

“Thank you for staying with Stefan.” My cutie collapsed into his chair, mumbling to himself as he scrubbed his hands over his face and through his hair. “I’m sure he could’ve handled the situation, but I’m glad he had you.”

Kenzie gave me a beaming smile and his little side popped out like one of those Whac-a-Mole games. “I was such a good boy. I’m going to go tell Daddy and get a reward.”

“Maybe he’ll make you lasagna. You like that.” Stefan seemed to like having something else to focus on besides the drama because he’d stopped mumbling to himself and actually lowered his hands. “And thank you for staying with me. It was slightly confusing.”

That was one way to describe it.

“They were naughty.” Kenzie’s was more accurate. “I’m gonna go tell.”

And as he actually skipped across the library and out the door, I finally chuckled. “He’s right. They were naughty.”

Stefan slowly nodded. “Yes, they might’ve started out with good intentions, though?”

He wasn’t sure about that, but as he relaxed in his chair, he didn’t look quite so stressed. “I don’t know what happened.”

Chaos had happened.

“Someone said there was an argument at the diner and then they just showed up.” Stefan frowned like the whole thing was still confusing. “But no one wanted to be the one to ask what I knew or what was going on, so they just kept wandering around and then Kenzie showed up.”

Throwing up his hands, he looked frustrated but not too worked up. “Kenzie didn’t want to leave me and he kept mumbling about siccing his Daddy on them.”

Before I could decide if I wanted to point out that he could’ve called me, Stefan sighed. “I thought about calling you, but I couldn’t decide if I’d sound insane or not. Come help me because there are people in the library just sounded nuts.”

I couldn’t help chuckling at that image, but I walked around the desk to give him a hug. “In this town, that can be seen as an emergency. How about you just give me a call or text me and say you’ve got a mob of nosy neighbors?”

Now it was his turn to chuckle, and he leaned against me and nuzzled against my torso, clearly looking for another snuggle. “Yes, that sounds much more reasonable for this town.”

Yeah, we were special.

“But they were trying to claim you and protect you.” That was good, if fucking nuts. “So they like you.”

He giggled, closing his eyes. “Your friends came over last night, oh, and did you know the mages were trying to claim me? Yes, you just said that. I’m sorry. This place is just so funny.”

I snorted. “You belong to the dragons and that’s a hill I’ll die on.”

Stefan let out another laugh. “Kenzie feels the same way.”

“Because he knows you belong to me.” That made Stefan blush and he was so cute I couldn’t resist leaning over and kissing his head. “But we won’t worry about the mages claiming you anymore, so how about lunch.”

Holding up the new lunch box I’d bought online and had overnighted, I ran my hand over his back. “Delivery as promised.”

He let out another giggle, loving his present even if it was only lunch. “What did you bring me?”

Scoffing, I held it just out of reach. “I can’t tell you that. It’s a surprise.”

As he wiggled, it seemed like the stress of the nosy mob had faded in the face of a present. “I’m ready to open my present, Daddy.”

He even gave it gimme fingers.

“Then let’s go to your office and sit down.” Kissing his head again, I stepped back and took his hand. “We’ll have lunch, and then when you’ve finished up here, we can go home and I’ll read you a book. How does that sound?”

He nodded as he rose, squeezing my hand. “Yes, that sounds good.”

But as we started walking toward his office, he cocked his head. “I think I just told the whole town I’m little. Oh, and that we’re dating. But the you taking care of me thing was probably pretty clear to most of them.”

I’d have put that the other way around, but it was correct, so I nodded. “Yes, you did. How do you feel about that?”

He didn’t answer my question. “How do you feel, Daddy?”

“Like now you’re really mine because everyone knows it?” My honesty got a giggle from him. “My dragon side likes that everyone knows you belong to me.”

Stefan was still smiling as he inched closer and rested his head on my shoulder. “We had a tea party last night.”

“I heard.” I kissed his head before leading him into his office, loving the small pile of pillows that were now decorating the floor of our cuddling spot. “I also wasn’t sure if I needed to apologize for them descending on you.”
