“Gah!” I shout and try to pull my hand back. He doesn’t let me. In fact, he pulls it to his mouth and kisses my palm.

“It would have stung.” I find this oddly sweet, so yeah, I too have lost my damn mind.

“Would have been worth it,” I growl.

“You still haven’t answered my question.”

“I never heard a question. Pretty sure those were all demands,” I point out.

I’m at a whole new level of being pissed than I even thought was attainable to me. I wasn’t even this mad when I walked in on my sister with my ex. But as pissy about Blake’s behavior as I am, I’m turned on more than I ever have been in my whole freaking life. That kiss was one I’ll never be able to forget.

“Good, then we're on the same page.” He smiles. “You leave anything at the table you need?”

“Yeah, my date!” There. I told him. Stick that in your pipe, you big jerk, and smoke it. I tilt my chin up at him, thinking I’ve won that round.

“For Simon’s safety, it's best you don’t repeat that.” My mouth falls open. He really has turned into some sort of Neanderthal.

“Wait, don’t you have a date in there too?” I recall there being a redhead at the bar with him. Where did she freaking go?

“Nina? She works for me.”

“Oh.” Relief that I shouldn’t feel fills me.

“All yours, babe.” He kisses the tip of my nose.

“Is everything okay out here?” Simon asks, stepping outside. No way he didn’t see Blake kissing me on my nose.

“This isn’t what it looks like,” I rush to say. He’s going to think I’m a total jerk now. I’ll never be able to step foot into his office again. Henry is going to be pissed when he finds out.

“It is,” Blake growls. The sound goes straight between my thighs. When he starts to move, I grab his shirt and yank on it as hard as I can. He actually stops moving, to my surprise.

“I’m sorry, Simon, I don’t think this is going to work.” It’s the truth, and not only because of Blake. There was no spark there.

“I’m picking up on that.”

“No hard feelings.” He gives me a smile before he walks off toward his car.

“Great. Now I’m the jerk.” I sigh.

“You need to break things off with Novak too.”

“What are you talking about now?” I go back to glaring at Blake.

“Whatever it is you two have going on.”

“We don’t have anything going on, you crazy person. He’s my boss.” Blake’s brows pull together in confusion.

“But you said you didn’t want him knowing about the date from the other night.”

Then it suddenly hits me all at once. His comments about my man and games make a lot more sense now.

“Novak is my boss who would tease me endlessly if he knew I got on to one of those apps. He told me to stay away from them. He was clearly right after the whole Justin thing.” He stares down at me. “So you thought I was dating Novak and going on dates with other men on the side? And now you want me to date you? Am I getting all of this correct?”

“Why do you think I was so pissed?”

“Still doesn’t explain why you were a jerk that first day!” I shout. “Why am I even doing this?” I mutter to myself, letting go of his shirt that I’m still holding on to for some reason. “I’m going home to Henry. He’s the only male I want to be around right now.” I turn to leave but don’t make it far.

A small scream leaves me when my feet leave the ground and I’m tossed over Blake’s shoulder. “Henry is my cat!” I say, realizing I poked my crazy bear too hard with that last comment. I did it on purpose too. I knew it would get a reaction, but I couldn’t help myself. I want him to be as mad as I am right now.

“I’m taking you home.” He walks down the sidewalk with me thrown over his shoulder.

“I have my car.”

“It will be parked out front of your house by the morning.” The next thing I know, I’m deposited into the passenger seat of his car. He pulls my seat belt on, clicking it into place. He pauses, his eyes locking with mine. His mouth is close enough that I can feel his breath. “Damn you’re beautiful.” He tucks a piece of my hair behind my ear. “Knew if I touched you, it would all be downhill from there. That there would be no going back.”

My heart gives a flutter. “You’re crazy,” I breathe, wanting him to kiss me again.

“I know. But tonight, I’ll take you home and let things settle in.”

“Let what things settle in?”

“That you’re mine.”

CHAPTER 11

BLAKE

“Y ou know I’m not an interior decorator, right?” Birdie asks, smoothing a hand over her belly. She’s pregnant with her second. Seems like it wasn’t so long ago that she was pushing out her first, but I have to say pregnancy suits her. She’s glowing.
