“I’m about to call him. He said he had it handled.” I didn’t want her father at the house when she got home. I’d never be able to let her out of this building if I thought he was there. “Did something else happen?”

“I might be curious, myself.”

“Then why didn’t you call him?”

Kate’s lips purse. “You know why.”

I shake my head at her. Noland manages all security-related matters for me. I hired him a few years back. The man has been in love with Kate from day one. I don't understand why she refuses to give him a chance. I think they’d be a suitable fit.

Yet she continues to deny that there’s something between them for some undisclosed reason. I would usually give her a harder time about it, but I have my own relationship issues going on.

I pull my phone out and call Noland, putting it on speaker. "I was about to call you, boss man."

I shake my head at the ridiculous nickname. “Where is he?” I told Noland I didn’t give a shit what he had to do short of killing the asshole.

“Occupying some space in a jail cell.” I immediately relax, knowing Lev will be safe for now. “Gonna be short-lived, though, cause I just got word that he’s posted bail.” Fuck. How is that even possible? The information I got from my sources said that neither he nor Lev’s mom really had any money or valuable possessions.

“I want to know the second he steps out of that jail. And find out who the fuck posted bail for him.” I can’t help that my words sound harsh.

“On it,” Noland responds before ending the call.

“You all right?” Kate's brows are lifted high. “I have never seen you this way. Nothing rattles you.”

“I don’t know.” I shove my phone back in my pocket. “I’ve got to go,” I tell her before heading out.

This is the first time in my life that I’ve been indecisive. Usually I know exactly what to do, and I never hesitate in my decision-making. I’m stuck, and I don’t know what to do about it. I want to grab Lev and haul her back to a cave and demand that she never leaves my sight. Those thoughts are insane on every level. That shit is fucked up, and I know that. It goes against everything I thought I believed, but here I am having those exact thoughts. I also don’t want to force Lev. I want to be the one good man in her life, amidst a sea of bad ones.

Right now, all I know is that I need to be close to her, and it doesn't take long before I'm parked outside her building. It’s not the worst part of town but not the best either. More so at night. I exit my car, debating what to do.

I won’t move from this spot until I’m sure of what is going on with her father. I know that she’s inside. I was a bastard and had Kate get her phone to download a couple of apps and passcodes. I’d put one of my own that tracked her. I don't trust the standard tracking app that comes with the phone. They’re glitchy and have too wide of a range.

I need to think of a bigger plan for Tom or at least get enough time that I can get Lev out of here without throwing her over my shoulder and forcing her. My girl would go buck wild. I smile at the thought. As much as I’d hate her to fight me, I love that fire inside of her. It’s part of her passion and who she is.

I push off my car when I see a small figure pulling open the building's front door. “Eros.” Lev’s eyes go wide with surprise. Before I can make up some bullshit reason for why I’m here, she’s dropping the bags in her hands and throwing herself at me.

“Darling.” I catch her, pulling her into my arms. Lev buries her face in my chest. I hold her there, allowing her to have whatever moment she needs, and I'm incredibly grateful that I'm the one who can provide it.

“I guess you’re not supposed to do this with your boss,” Lev mumbles against my chest.

“Thought I was friend-zoned.” Lev drops her head back to meet my eyes, and her nose scrunches.

“Your friends throw themselves at you?”

“This is a first, but like I said, you can call me a friend. I told you I’d never do the same.”

“Right.” Lev lets out a long breath.

“What’s with the bags?” I ask. I can tell they're overflowing.

“I have been trying to reach Gabriella, but I think it will be a few more hours till they’re up.” Caleb had taken his new wife to the other side of the world. I could see the appeal.
