This is enough to whip out my badge to arrest them for prostitution and take them downtown, but that’s not what I’m after.

“Is Brandon here?” I look around the crowd again, still not seeing him.

Sugar shakes her head. “No, work. Devereaux is coming down hard on him.”

I’m sure that’s partly my fault, but I’m not telling her that. “Was Luna one of your girls?”

They both shake their heads. “No, she wasn’t.”

I feel deflated. Had Luna been involved I could have actually tied in a reason for Brandon to kill her. I still think Brandon’s my guy, and more than anything I want to talk to Finn.

I glance over at Devereaux. A huge part of me wants to fill him in on what I’m learning, but I have to follow this through, see how this operation works and not jump to any conclusions too soon. I want to call Finn, have him bring Sugar, Raven, and Brandon down to the station to question them about the murders, but just because they run a prostitution ring doesn’t mean they’re killers.

Doesn’t mean they’re not either.

I just need to be sure.

Raven and Sugar get distracted by the fight, and I glance back at Devereaux. His eyes are like summer lightning, making my skin spark with heat.

Sugar looks down at her phone. “Oh, I’ve got to go. Have to meet a client.” She kisses us both on the cheek, telling me she’ll be in touch soon.

“Ready to get out of here?” Raven asks me.

Even though the fights aren’t anywhere close to being done, I am ready to go. Fighting isn’t really my thing, and I got what I wanted.

I’m a prostitute.

Chapter 30

Devereaux

* * *

I don’t know why Swan’s really here, and a part of me worries if she’s getting herself into something with Sugar and Raven that could lead to trouble. Do they have what it takes to run a prostitution ring out of my club?

I’m sure they do.

They both definitely have the resources. It’s a perfect side hustle for them.

Is Brandon involved?

And again, why the fuck was Swan with them? I need to find out what they talked about.

Roman nudges me with his elbow. “Hundred bucks says this guy with the blue trunks knocks the other out.”

I couldn’t care less about the fight going on before us. All I care about is knowing the truth.

What I want more than anything is to get Swan home and explore her all night long.

“What do you think?” Ledger asks me.

“About the fight? I couldn’t give two flying fucks about the fight.”

“No, about who showed up. Do you think it could be any of them?”

“It’s not Swan,” I say with a definitive tone. I regret my possessive tone immediately when they pick up on it.

Roman holds his hands out in a mock surrender. “Oh, of course, it can’t be her.”

I cross my arms, not amused by his antics. “It’s not her, but I wouldn’t put it past Sugar.”

Ledger scrubs a hand over his bearded face. “Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.”

“And if she’s involved that leads to the question, is Brandon?” Roman finishes his brother’s thought.

Whether Brandon is involved is exactly what I’ve been going over in my head all night.

“I actually believed that fucker when we questioned him,” Ledger says.

“He might not be guilty, but…” Roman doesn’t need to finish his thought.

If I had to put money on who’s behind these murders instead of betting on a fight at Throwdown, my money would be on Brandon and Sugar.

There are a million different scenarios going through my head at the moment. Maybe the girls wanted to quit and Brandon didn’t want them to? There are so many reasons for what could be happening, and I’m going to find out what’s truly going on, but first…

I need to know what Swan knows.

“Honey, I’m home,” I say as I open the door to my Victorian-style home.

The house is silent, but I know Swan’s here. Did she fall asleep?

I walk through the living room, into the kitchen, and that’s when I spot her porcelain skin cascading into the pool. I linger to watch her float through the water. The night sky hides her from me, but luckily the pool’s lighting is on my side, showcasing everything I want to see outside my patio doors.

I tug the slider open, removing my tie as I exit the house. “Hi there,” I say as I stand over her in the pool.

She swims lazily in circles, completely nude. “Hi,” she says with a smile.

There’s so much skin, and I remove my clothes, wanting into the water as quickly as possible. I have questions to ask her, but they’ll have to be put on hold until I can have this woman in my arms. Get my fill of her.

“I was afraid you might be sleeping,” I tell her as I step into the pool.
