The room looks like they partied a bit too hard last night and no one’s bothered to clean up the mess. Empty beer bottles litter every open space of table tops. A rumpled white sheet lays across the couch like someone slept there.

Vlad is being pinned down by Ledger, whose eyes are wild with fury. Roman has his gun trained on Dimitri as I question him.

“Tell me,” I hiss at him.

“No,” he shouts. “No, we weren’t even in town when one of those bitches died.”

I slam my fist against his jaw again for calling any of my girls a bitch. “Which one?”

“The one with the colorful hair.”

“Strawberry?” I ask, knowing that’s who they’re talking about.

“I don’t know her name. I’ve never fucked that one.” He laughs under his breath. “I hardly know any of their names except my favorite girl. Kitty.”

I roll my eyes. These men disgust me.

Vlad wrestles against Ledger’s restraint. “Let us go. We’ll tell our father you broke my nose.”

I stare first at Ledger, and then at Vlad. “Your father won’t care.” I‘ve already told Yuri I’d be questioning his sons, and he knows exactly what that entails. He also knows I have the key to his destruction, so he won’t retaliate over something as simple as a broken nose.

“I just made your face look better,” I say as I stand to my full height. I walk over to where Ledger has Vlad pinned down and lean over him. “Tell me what you assholes know. There has to be something. Tell me,” I seethe, wanting to break the rest of his face. My hand cries in pain, but I don’t bother addressing it just yet. I’m too angry. “Now.”

I know these motherfuckers must have some information.

Vlad and Dimitri share a look and then Vlad pushes against Ledger. “Ok, let me up,” he says, and Ledger releases his hold on him.

Roman aims his weapon at Vlad, who holds up his hands. “I’ll talk. Put that cheap ass pistol away.”

Roman stares at his gun. “Motherfucker, this is a Kimber.”

Vlad moves over to a floor-to-ceiling mirror near a ceramic tile bar. He stares at the blood dripping from his nostrils, and then he holds his fingers to his nose and cracks it back into place. “Fuck,” he groans out. We all watch as he makes himself a drink before he sits on a barstool. “No one is taking credit, but there’s been a mention that this goes high up.”

“How high up?”

“Kurt Merrick’s a member, right? I’ve seen him there a few times. Maybe you should question him.”

“The senator’s son?”

“What else are they saying?” Roman asks, sliding his gun into its holster.

Vlad stares at Dimitri once more. “We thought the Ivanovs were behind it. We thought maybe they’d tried to pin the murders onto our family because of the shit that’s going down with Mikhail.”

“Mikhail Popov?” Roman asks, recognizing the name from the case Greer’s working on.

“Yes, he’s charged with killing one of our men.”

“I thought you didn’t work for your father?”

Vlad rolls his eyes. “We were born into this business. There’s no not working for the family. It’s in our blood.”

“So,” Ledger begins, “let me get this straight. Mikhail kills one of your men, and you thought the Ivanovs would try to pin the murders onto your family?”

Dimitri nods along with his brother. “Yes, that way they could make the murder of Sven not look so bad.”

“Well, that’s just stupid.”

“The Ivanovs will do anything to get their man off. Even if it means roughing up a certain attorney.”

My pulse races, but before I can act on it, Roman busts Vlad’s nose.

“Is that a threat?” Roman asks, pulling his fist back. “Are you saying Greer’s in danger?”

Vlad holds onto his nose as it gushes blood. “Everyone on the wrong side of the Ivanovs are in trouble. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re the ones killing these girls.”

Ivan Ivanov is one mean motherfucker. I also know Yuri’s been fucking his wife for years now. I always wonder what Ivan would do if he knew that. It’s a valuable piece of information I like to use as leverage against Yuri.

“Ok, I need to know what you know about Greer. Has a threat been made?” I grab my phone out of my pocket, shooting off a text to the men protecting my sister to see if everything’s fine.

“Calm down. Nothing’s been said, I’m just speculating,” Vlad says, grabbing a towel resting on the bar to sop up the blood from his face. “If I had to guess I’d question that redheaded Merrick fuck.”

“So you were in Russia?” I ask.

Vlad nods again. “Yes. We have proof too.”

“How come your father didn’t tell me that?”

Both Vlad and Dimitri scoff. “You think our father has any fucking clue what we do?”

I stare at the brothers, wondering how much I can trust them. “I guess not. Give me the proof.”
