Damn tears burned her eyes. “Never said I was sad we were apart.”
“Guess Jager and Colum were wrong.” A shrug. “No matter. I was fucking miserable and so was Finnegan.”
She kissed his palm. “Finnegan? What does he have to do with this?”
“He liked you and never let me forget how nice it was having you around.” A mock glare. “I told him he wasn’t allowed to say your name so he started calling you the ‘Angel Tasked with Saving Rhodes’.” He kissed her, slowly, deeply until she sank into him. “He was right, you did save me. In more ways than one, but it started that rainy night in Seattle.”
“We don’t even work in the same circles.”
“Our circle, Peach, is what we make it. You, your sisters, your new sisters and their men, crazy as they may be. Our children. And me. I’m in this until the good Lord calls me home, probably even then, though I’ll wait for you so we can go together.”
The first tears spilled and he wiped them away with his thumbs.
“I love you too, Livingston.”
He picked her up as they kissed until he sat in the chair and held her on his lap. “I know you do, Peach. Tell them you’re going to be busy for the afternoon.” A nip on her ear shot pleasure through her. “I have plans for you.”
As always, the man kept his promises, and she was busy for the entire afternoon—and on.
