She could feel her cheeks growing even warmer as he held her bottle out to her.

“Take a few sips. Just get the head inside you . . . I, uh . . . um . . .”

She coughed, the water she’d just drunk flying out of her mouth as she half-choked.

Oh. Shit.

She stared at him in disbelief. Had he just said that? And had she just spat water all over his face?

Dear. Lord.

“I am so sorry.”

He shook his head and she tensed. Oh no, was he mad? He searched around and grabbed a napkin, wiping himself clean. She winced.

Oh my God.

Could she be any more embarrassing? Or gross?

“I’m so, so sorry.” She grabbed the bed cover and pulled it completely over her. But it was suddenly tugged out of her hands.

A low chuckle reached her ears. He was laughing?

“Don’t be. I deserved that for teasing you.”

“Teasing me?”

“With your water bottle.” He examined the different levels and what was written there. The first one said ‘Just take the head.’

The next one was ‘Slide down the shaft.’

“This is certainly unique.”

“I got it online from one of my favorite authors. It makes me giggle when I use it,” she said defensively.

“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with it. I’m sorry if I embarrassed you.”

“And I’m sorry that I spat all over you.”

“My fault. Here, I want you to slide down the shaft.”

“Oh, dear Lord, will you please stop reading what it says before I die.” Her cheeks were so hot that she felt ill.

He chuckled. “We can’t have that. I’m rather enjoying your company.”

Warmth flooded her.

After she’d drunk some water, he held out more food and she took another bite. It was kind of cold but she was hungry. When she got a bit of sauce smudged at the edge of her lips, he wiped it with a napkin.

He must be an awesome Daddy.

Why he was single? Perhaps he’d just come out of a relationship. Was he actively looking for another one?

Urgh. Stop.

Do not go wishing for something you can’t have.

After they finished, he put the trash in the bin and turned on the coffee. Jeez, he even made coffee.

Lord, save her now.

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

Hot. Restless.

“Good.”

“Good, huh? Is your tailbone still sore?”

“No, it feels fine. Well, it is kind of numb from the cold. Can I take this off?”

“Yes, you can. Let me help.” He removed the cold pack and adjusted her clothing before helping her sit up.

They ended up sitting close together.

Way too close.

He swallowed heavily. Was he going to kiss her?

She waited, but all he did was clear his throat, then stand.

All right . . . she felt the sting of rejection.

Except he didn’t look like he was disgusted by her. More like he needed space to stop himself from kissing her.

“Let’s see if my magic medicine bag has something for a brave Little girl.” He grabbed his bag she practically preened at his words.

“Yay! And you forgot to give me my treat too.”

That was rude.

“Oh, I didn’t forget. You’re not getting your treat. You were naughty.”

She gasped dramatically, placing her hand on her chest. “I was not. I’m never naughty.”

“You were watching a horror movie. You were so scared that you tried to fight me off as I was coming in the door.”

“But I didn’t know that watching a horror movie was against the rules. Therefore I wasn’t actually naughty.”

That was some airtight reasoning.

“That so?” he drawled. “But I do believe I told you to be good. And you could have gotten really hurt when you rushed at me like that. I might have hit you in self-defense.”

Well. Hell.

This called for one thing . . . she let her lower lip drop out in a pout.

“Oh, that’s fucking cute. I love cute things,” he muttered.

She didn’t think she was meant to hear that part, which made her smile. She was so going to get her treat.

“But you’re still not getting your treat.”

“Wow. That’s mean.”

“I wouldn’t push me, Little girl.”

“Okay. But I still get my treasure, right?”

“My magic medicine bag always produces treasure for good Little girls and boys.”

What other Littles was he taking care of? Jealousy hit her hard and fast and she had to breathe through it.

Don’t go getting attached, Greer. He isn’t yours.

Finally, he pulled a treasure chest out of the medicine bag. “Here it is.”

He sat facing her and opened the box. Glitter exploded out of it, coating his face and chest.

Greer burst into giggles. He looked like a giant, sparkly rainbow.

“Shit. How the hell did that happen? It’s like a damn glitter bomb.” His gaze narrowed. “Emme.”

“Who is Emme?” Her giggles died away.

“This screams of her. Emme had a bad cold and I said she had to spend more time in bed, resting. She wasn’t happy with me. She rigged my damn treasure box.”

Greer wasn’t sure whether to be upset or amused.
