“Man . . . hurt me . . . where?”

“We don’t know where he is,” Cash said grimly. “But don’t worry, we’ll find that fucker. Or Ortega will.”

They were moving. Each bump was agonizing. She could barely breathe. But before she fell into unconsciousness, she realized that Ortega must have been the guy that had found her first.

The one that called her Bebé.

Just like DaddyO.

Weird.

Hack rushed toward the clinic. He was aware of Sav pulling up beside him in his truck, and that Duke was with him. But he didn’t spare the time to talk to them.

Running inside, he looked around frantically.

Where was she?

How the fuck had this happened?

He’d just gotten out of surgery when he’d received a call from Aidan telling him that Greer had been hurt and was at the clinic. He had no idea why she wasn’t taken to the hospital.

Who had found her? Where had she been?

He thought she’d been home safe and sound.

People stared at him in shock, shying back as Sav and Duke joined him. He knew they had to make a sight with their tattoos and fierce expressions.

But he didn’t give a shit. He just needed to see Greer. To make sure that she was all right.

And after he reassured himself that she was okay, he was going to scold the heck out of her. She was going to be grounded until she was eighty. And he was seriously thinking about hiring her a permanent babysitter.

“Here, Doc.” One of the nurses who volunteered here a lot waved at him and he followed her back to an examination room. There was a strange man standing at the door. He was heavily tattooed, with his dark hair slicked back on his head. He eyed them warily.

“You’re the boyfriend.” He looked past him to the others. “Aidan.”

“I know you?” Sav asked.

“Long time ago.”

“Who are you?” Hack snapped. “Where’s Greer?”

“In here. But I suggest you tone it the fuck down before you scare her.”

Who the fuck was this guy?

Hack let out a low growl.

“He’ll be better once he sees his girl,” Duke said calmly.

The guy nodded and turning, opened the door. They all rushed in to find Greer lying on an examination table. One of his colleagues was checking her eyes. His breath rushed out of his lungs as he took her in. Her right eye was swollen shut, her face starting to bruise.

Her hair was a mess and her clothes dirty and ripped.

“What the fuck happened?” Sav snapped.

Hack turned to snarl at him for talking to Greer like that. But then he saw his gaze was off to the side.

Where Cash leaned against the wall, his face hard and closed off. The guy that had been standing out of the room joined him. A friend of his?

What was going on?

“Hack?”

He turned his gaze back to Greer. Shit. None of that mattered right now. All that mattered was her.

“Baby girl. Fuck. What happened? How is she, Oliver?”

“She’s being very brave,” Oliver said, patting her shoulder lightly. “Slight concussion. We’re going to leave this ice pack on that eye to keep down the swelling.” He picked up an ice pack and put it back over her eye as she flinched. Hack’s anger grew. “And we need to -ray her ribs. There’s bruising along her side and one or two might be cracked.” Oliver glanced up at him, then around the room. “These guys don’t want to involve the cops, even though she was obviously beaten up.”

The silence in the room was damning.

“How about I leave you all for a moment,” Oliver said. “I’ll come back to let you know when the x-ray machine is free.”

“Thanks, man. I owe you.” As Oliver moved away, Hack rushed forward, his hands hovering over her. “Oh, baby. Are you in a lot of pain? Did they give you some painkillers?”

“They did. They’ve taken really good care of me. Daddy, I’m so sorry.”

Tears started dripping down her face. He sat facing her, brushing them away gently. “Hey, what’s this? What do you have to be sorry for?”

“I was . . . I shouldn’t have gone there. Such a stupid thing to do. I’m so dumb. I . . . I . . .”

Shit.

“Hey. Calm down,” he told her firmly. “This isn’t your fault. Did you ask someone to hurt you?”

“No,” she cried.

“No. So you will not take all of this on yourself. Understand me?”

“But I was naughty,” she whispered.

“Then we’ll deal with that later,” he whispered back, aware of the others talking in the background. “But right now, what we need to concentrate on is looking after you.”

“Why the hell don’t you want to involve the cops?” Sav demanded. “What are you mixed up in, Cash?”

“Nothing you want or need to know about,” Cash replied coolly.

“Damn it, Cash! Don’t give me that bullshit! I’m your brother.”
