He considered pinching himself to be sure he wasn’t dreaming. Somehow in less than a week, he’d met his forever Little girl and essentially moved her into his house.

She was precious beyond words, even when she was naughty. He suspected she would continue to make mistakes for a while as she learned that Daddy meant business and began to trust his decisions and obey his rules, but the structure would be good for her.

She looked so cute sitting in his kitchen, wearing nothing but his T-shirt, squirming around because her bottom was sore. When she picked up the sippy cup and took a long drink, he melted a bit more. She was so perfect for him.

Everything was going too well. Was he overlooking anything? It was hard to imagine anything could possibly happen to disrupt the path that had guided him to his Little girl.

Chapter Eleven

Things got busier and busier over the next few days. Work got more hectic as the holiday approached. Every day there were more customers than the day before. Rose began to worry she didn’t have enough staff to get through the season, but she was also afraid if she added another person, there wouldn’t be enough work to keep them after the holidays were over.

Her Daddy was amazing. He was her rock. Her life wouldn’t be running nearly as smoothly as it was without him. He was there for her when she got up in the mornings and there to tuck her into his bed late at night.

Adam cooked and cleaned. He made sure she ate properly, feeding her breakfast and dinner under his supervision and sending her to work with a lunch that would sustain her throughout the day.

She didn’t even think about skipping lunch anymore because she was always excited to see what he’d packed. He was an amazing cook. His lunches made the other employees jealous when they found her eating in the breakroom.

The first two days without caffeine left her with a slight headache and the jitters, but by the third day, she felt much better. Once again, Daddy knew best. She had tried to follow his guidance every day, and she hadn’t ended up standing in the corner with a sore bottom since the night she’d had three infractions in one day.

On her fourth morning sleeping with Daddy, her phone rang so early Daddy’s alarm hadn’t gone off yet. She recognized the sound, but she was groggy enough that she couldn’t quite manage to pull herself to sitting before Daddy reached across her and snagged it from the nightstand.

“We better answer it, Rosebud. At this hour, it might be important.”

She pushed to sitting while he swiped his finger across the screen before the call would be missed. He pushed the speaker button and held it out.

“Hello?” she said. Her voice was so scratchy, she had to clear it and try again. “Hello?”

“Rose? This is Johnny, the night watchman from the mall.”

“Oh, hi, Johnny.” She sat up straighter. “Is something wrong?”

“You could say that. There was a water main break in your wing of the mall overnight. There’s no damage to your store, but we had to shut off electricity to that wing. The water department is on their way out. I can’t be sure how long it will take to fix it, but you won’t be able to open Stuff-It today.”

“Oh.” She was waking up by degrees, but still processing his information. “Thank you for letting me know. I’ll call my employees.”

“Good. Someone will contact you when we know how long it’s going to take to make the repairs. Enjoy your accidental vacation day.” He ended the call.

Rose sighed. “I guess I should consider it a gift, but it’s hard when I think about all the holiday revenue we’ll miss out on.”

Daddy rubbed her back. “I bet they’ll have you back up and running in a day or two. Like you said, let’s call it a gift. I’ll cancel my meetings for today, and we’ll both play hooky from life.” He grinned.

She couldn’t help but join his enthusiasm. “You know what I’d really like to do?”

“What’s that, Rosebud?”

“I’d like it if you took me to your plant. I haven’t had a chance to see where you work. I want to know how gumballs are made.”

He tugged her back under the covers. “That’s a great idea, Rosebud, but first I want to take advantage of other bonuses we get as a result of this forced vacation day.”

She giggled, but her body came alive fast as soon as her Daddy lowered his face to her breast, cupping it as he circled her nipple with his tongue.

Suddenly, she felt very grateful for the day off.

Adam ushered Rose into the main door of the gumball factory. There was a small reception area for visitors to purchase products. A woman at the front desk smiled and stood to greet them.
