She could safely bet that Romeo wasn’t into cuddling or sharing breakfast and coffee the next morning.
Again, it was time to go since she got what she came for and had no other reason to stay.
She inched her way to the edge of the bed. “I need to clean up. I guess the only bathroom for me to use is downstairs.” She’d simply grab her clothes and not climb back up those treacherous steps.
But before she could get to her feet, he grabbed her arm and yanked her back to the spot next to him. “Got you.”
He got me?
Her eyes tracked all his naked glory when he climbed out of bed, still carrying his own DNA, and quickly disappeared down the steps.
Sitting up, she listened carefully to make sure his naked ass didn’t tumble down them. Because if he did, she’d do enough to make sure he was still breathing, cover his important bits with a towel and dial 911.
They could deal with his crumpled ass. She was a physical therapist, not an ER nurse.
A soft snort escaped her.
If the man only knew her thoughts…
But really, why was she waiting?
Before she could once again try to escape his bed, his head appeared at the steps followed by that heavily tattooed, drool-worthy body.
Damn it.
In one of his big paws, he no longer held the used condom but what looked like a wet rag.
This couldn’t be his normal routine, could it?
Her guess was many women had his footprint on their backs from him kicking them out of his bed.
Approaching the bed, he held out what she now could see was a washcloth and not some random rag.
She still wrinkled her nose as he held it out to her. While that was a really nice gesture… “Was it clean?”
“Nah, wiped my ass with it first. Of course it was fuckin’ clean. Whataya take me for?”
She pressed her lips tightly together to prevent answering that and snagged it from his fingers. “I assumed most bikers stood outside and hosed themselves off.”
His lips twisted and he shook his head. “That what the Fury does?”
“I really don’t ask them their hygiene routine.”
“What about your stepdaddy?”
She shrugged. “I don’t follow him into the bathroom, either.”
“Ever see him outside buck naked with a hose?”
While normally she’d find that question amusing, she couldn’t when it came to Shade. With his tragic situation growing up—and she’d been spared most of the grizzly details—she wouldn’t doubt he’d had a hose turned on him. Unfortunately, the reason for it would be no laughing matter.
“I should go,” she murmured as she quickly swiped the damp cloth between her legs and over her inner thighs.
“Where you gotta go?”
“Home.”
“What’s there?”
She frowned at this unexpected line of questioning, scooted off the bed and to her feet. “My bed.” She grabbed her clothes and began pulling them on.
“Maddie…”
She raised her eyes to him. “Yeah?”
He was staring a little too hard at her. “Lookin’ goddamn fine, woman.”
“There’s been some changes since the last time you saw me naked.” She didn’t like all of them, but there was only so much she could do.
“Nothin’ wrong with that. No man in his right mind wants to gnaw on a fuckin’ bone without any meat.”
“Dogs do.”
“Ain’t a dog.”
She went back to pulling on her pants. “I’m not sure you can say that.”
“And that’s a problem.”
It wasn’t a question, but she answered it anyway as she slipped her feet into her shoes. “Not for me, it isn’t.” When she was done, she pulled her hair back into a ponytail, grabbed her baseball cap and slapped it back onto her head. “Well, it’s been fun.”
“That it?”
She glanced at where he stood naked with his hands on those awesome hips of his. His spent cock was still impressive. As well as tempting.
Time to go.
She could see him becoming a dangerous bear trap that she needed to avoid stepping into and getting caught. If that happened, she might have to gnaw off her own leg.
“Am I forgetting something?”
He sucked on his teeth and slowly shook his head. “No.”
With a nod, she headed toward the steps, took her time carefully climbing down them and walked out the door.
She did not backtrack through Dirty Dick’s since she didn’t want to draw any attention. Instead, she skirted the exterior of the bar and headed back to her Highlander.
During the drive home, she realized, as she hoped, Romeo had helped her forget all about her asshole boss.
At least for a little while. Unfortunately, morning was right around the corner. And with it, another day at Smith’s Sports Therapy & Rehab Center.
Chapter Eighteen
Romeo sat back and slowly stroked his beard as he contemplated his fellow Knights joining him around the long table where the president’s gavel sat only a couple of inches from his left hand.
His nostrils flared as he pulled in an irritated breath. He wouldn’t be surprised if he started grinding his teeth, too.
