He also didn’t have to do that.

But he did it for her.

And that had bothered her the most about the whole interaction.

Chapter Four

Had it really been five fucking years since he’d seen her?

The couple of times the clubs got together he had asked about her, but not in an obvious way that would draw suspicion.

He had been told she was away at school.

When they hooked up during Easy’s wedding weekend celebration, she was already a college graduate. That meant she had gone back to further her education.

She might have mentioned it back then, but her schooling hadn’t been the focus of his interest.

Even so, that hammered home the fact that she’d been out of his league before… But now? She probably had some impressive degree. Unlike his wrinkled and stained high school diploma he received by the skin of his teeth. Did he need that damn piece of paper? Hell no. He made something out of his life without it.

He might not be considered “successful” in a lot of circles, but he didn’t give a fucking shit what others thought about him.

Romeo might not have book smarts, but he had street smarts. To run his MC. To make scratch. Even to stay alive.

And to him, that was more important.

He only needed to be respected as the president of an ever-expanding MC that had grown to thirty-two members. Their brotherhood was now larger than either the Dirty Angels or the Blood Fury, even though the Fury was now running a close second.

While the three MCs in the west formed a formidable army, he was more interested in growing one of his own. That way, in a pinch, the Knights didn’t have to rely on anyone else. It would also guarantee they’d be a force to be reckoned with if another president was voted in for the Fury or the Angels and decided to turn on the Knights in an attempt to take their territory.

Having numbers on their side would make sure that wouldn’t happen easily, if at all.

Romeo wasn’t a fucking fool. He knew the next in line to hold the Angels’ gavel was Z’s son, Zeke. While Zak had a laid-back personality and a good head for biker business, his son was young and cocky. Then there was the fact that Little Z was already doing stupid shit. The kid needed to get some of that out of his system before taking the reins of a long-established, well-respected MC.

The wrong president could destroy a club. The right one could make it invincible. He considered himself the second type. He figured his brothers did, too, since he kept getting voted back in as prez year after year after the former prez stepped down.

He was slowly replacing his executive committee with younger blood but there were still some old timers hanging on.

Like Magnum. However, his sergeant at arms had created a stronger bond with the DAMC by making Cait, the daughter of one of the Angels, his ol’ lady, wife, and the mother of his two youngest offspring.

It wouldn’t hurt to create that same bond with the BFMC.

Only he wasn’t looking to “settle down” with an ol’ lady. He certainly wasn’t looking for a fucking wife or to have crotch droppings. At only thirty-four, he was still living life to the fullest and had a long way to go before tying himself to one woman screwed that up.

Could he have an ol’ lady and still fuck around with other females? No fucking doubt, but that would cause a lot of damn headaches he didn’t want to deal with.

Unfortunately, most women didn’t like to share.

Life was hell of a lot simpler when he stuck to sweet butts, hang-arounds and strange he could easily scrape off.

As he steered his sled into the parking lot of Dirty Dick’s and continued along the side of the building to the rear, the memory of Maddie spread naked on the bed in his rented RV flashed before him.

He couldn’t fucking believe he ran into her tonight.

He pulled up next to the side of his crib and shut down his sled.

No, he couldn’t fucking believe she’d been living in the area for a year and a half—according to her before they parted ways—and no one ever mentioned it.

If Dark Knights property moved up north, he’d be on the fucking phone letting Trip know so they could watch out for her.

That was what allies did for each other. They had each other’s back.

That covered family and property, too.

Once he no longer straddled his ride and his feet were planted on the ground, he pulled his cell phone from the inner pocket of his cut and glanced at the time.

It was after eight. The old man could already be in bed.

He texted Magnum anyway. U no the Fury’s Maddie is livn down here?
