The Truth About Levi Thompkins

Number One: Levi carved his initials in a girl’s skin after she rejected him, swearing she’d always belong to him.

Number Two: He siphons money from his dad’s business account to pay for escorts that let him hurt them.

Number Three: Levi set fire to a building with people inside it.

Number Four: Levi Thompkins unplugged his grandfather’s life support. A nurse found out in time and saved him. Levi threatened to destroy the nurse and his entire family if he told anyone.

Number Five: His grandfather died a week later from a stroke. Levi’s parents inherited everything.

“See,” Rafael said, voice hard. “That’s the look.”

“Oh my goodness, Rafael.”

“After you told us what Levi tried to do to you that night, we went digging to find out if Levi got the idea to carve people up before.” Rafael gestured with his chin. “The girl he did that to was his ex-girlfriend, Estelle. We left the details out because you were right. She went through enough while dating that piece of shit. We don’t need to drag her into it.”

“Thank you.” I read it again. My stomach tightened further. “Do you really think he killed his grandfather?”

“There’s no proof he did. The man wasn’t well and he could’ve died from natural causes, but with the timing so soon after Levi tripped over the plug is too suspicious to ignore.”

“Then, how did you know he did that if there’s no proof?”

Rafael sat down next to me. “Wilder dug up the email Levi sent threatening the man. He said he tripped and if the nurse claimed otherwise, he’d ruin his life. There were no messages, threats, or emails after that.”

I threw the vile list away from me. “But if Wilder had that email all this time, why didn’t he report him... to the... police...?” I trailed off at Rafael’s expression. “Holy hell, he did, didn’t he? He reported him and the cops did nothing.”

My heart cracked as Rafael nodded.

“That camera in the locker room,” Rafael said. “Wilder found out about it when a photo of a friend of his got around. She was a Dreg, so no one paid attention when she swore it was a creepshot and she didn’t take it.

“Wilder hacked every guy in our school looking for the one behind it, and discovered Wesley’s tests on strays, the photos Owen sends to taunt the people his family ruins, and the email Levi sent to the nurse.

“It was him who reported Wesley for animal cruelty, and anonymously sent Levi’s email to the police. Do I need to tell you fuck all was done about it after Mommy and Daddy flashed their wads of cash?”

“No, you don’t,” I gritted. “They pay for it all now, Rafael. Finally, there’s someone willing to teach them consequences.” I glanced at the list. “I wonder what Levi will say in defense of this.”

“I’m sure I’ll hear about it tonight.” Rafael plopped his phone on my lap. “Giovanni called. The putzes have had enough and want to find the person ripping them down the Royal ladder. He set the meet for tonight, and he’s bringing a few people.”

“Are you serious?” I cried. “He called? It worked?”

He threw out his hands. “You wanted to drive those bastards into the arms of the Rogues. They jumped the curb and plowed right in it. It worked.”

I jumped him, squeezing the mess out of him. The only one in his arms was me. “I can’t believe they’re so fucking stupid, they’re begging their tormentor for help.”

“Giovanni and Wesley don’t have beef with me. Actually, we trade nods in class, and Wesley was my lab partner last year. They think we’re cool.” Rafael’s hands slid down my waist, content to not let go. “As for Owen and Levi, those fuckers know we’re not, but by making you the first victim of the lists, they won’t think we got back at them for hurting you.”

“Saylor’s crew thinks my list was really about getting to Victor and the Wilsons. Spreading that theory around only helps us.” I slipped out of his hold and opened his door. Making like I was checking to see if Lucien and Cato were fighting gave me an excuse to end the hug. The fact I did not want to leave his arms, was reason enough. “I’ll be there tonight, Rafael. I want to watch them spring the trap.”

“Normally, I’d say it’s too risky, but I anticipated this request and already thought of a way to make it work. We meet at midnight tonight. You’ll have to get there earlier,” he said. “There’s a side entrance...”

Rafael and I went through the plan, arranging where I’d be before and where to meet him after. We talked for so long, a random look at the clock warned me I was dangerously close to being late for class.
