“She’s not my female.”

Flora’s lips tighten, and she looks away.

“Was she not remanded to your care?” I probe.

Axe hesitates. “She was. Temporarily.”

“So you’re her master, and she’s your charge.”

“She’s my–” Axe breaks off and sends a quick glance at Flora. His horns thicken and tilt in her direction.

As I suspected. His interest goes beyond the information she may have.

“She’s your female for now. Remember what she’s endured. If her past made her rebellious, it’s because she lacked freedom of any kind.”

Axe immediately releases Flora’s nape as if her slender neck scalded his hand. “I know that,” he snaps. He takes her by the elbow instead. “Come, human,” he barks.

“Coming, Master,” Flora murmurs in what might be construed as a respectful voice but somehow misses the mark.

Sia reaches for her friend, but I catch her hand to lead her away. “Another time, Sia.”

She directs those large, dark eyes at me, blinking her thick lashes. “Yes, Master.”

Unlike Flora, Sia sounds genuine, and her velvety tones make my dick hard.

I have ideas about how to make my little human talk, and they all involve her naked and at my mercy.

In fact, I can’t wait until I can set aside the time for a personal interrogation. One with a bit of punishment mixed in to keep her honest.

We step out into the sunlight as my friend Khrys and his human mate Kailani walk up with their young toddler in arms.

Sia gasps, staring at the halfling child then at his two parents.

I lift my forearm at a right angle, fist high in the traditional Zandian greeting. “Khrys, Kailani, this is Sia. We rescued her and several other human slaves from Simak 14.”

Khrys mimics the greeting gesture while Kailani stretches a hand out to grasp Sia’s.

Sia only has eyes for the young, though. “Who is this?” Her smile lights up her face, making me almost jealous of the child for evoking such joy from her.

Making me desperate to put young in her belly, to watch her grow our own halfling.

“This is Nicao, our young,” Kailani says with a matching smile. “He’s just over one solar cycle.”

The tiny young lifts his fist in the air as Khrys and I had, and we all laugh in appreciation and return the gesture.

“He’s so smart,” Sia coos.

“He’s here for a checkup with Dr. Daneth. We would stay to talk, but we’re already late,” Kailani apologizes.

“Of course. Nice to meet you,” Sia exclaims, her gaze still on the halfling.

When they go in, she tips her face up to mine. “So it’s true–Zandians do mate with humans?”

I nod. “It’s true. Our species is in danger of extinction. Dr. Daneth discovered that humans are the best breeders to allow us to repopulate the planet.”

Sia’s forehead wrinkles. “But Kailani isn’t…” She darts a glance in the direction Kailaini and Khrys went. “She’s not just a breeder. Is she? They looked… mated. Happy.”

My horns thicken and tilt in her direction. She wants to be mated. To bear Zandian young. I’m sure of it, and the idea makes my blood run south to my cock. I want to be the male to put those young inside her.

As if she catches my mood, she presses up against my body, her nipples tenting the thin fabric of her dress.

“Many humans mate their masters,” I murmur.

She blinks, and I catch the scent of her arousal.

“Would you like that?”

“Yes, Master.” She adds a purr to her voice.

My horns thicken and pulse.

Veck, yes.

I lower my face to hers, my lips hovering close to her lush mouth. “Show me you’re a good little human, and we’ll see if we make a good match.”

“Yes, Master.”

I want to taste her. Disrobe her. Find out what makes her scream. But she’s still recovering from her injuries. I’ll have to wait another planet rotation or two.

Veck, I want to initiate her sexually.

Axe is so wrong about these females.

They’re not to be feared. They’re meant to be gently but firmly conquered.

Chapter Five

Sia

“How are you feeling?” Daven asks the next planet rotation.

It’s a sunny morning and beams stream in through the large domed window of his domicile. His is a raised abode that overlooks a somewhat busy square below, and like everything on the planet, it’s quite beautiful.

A crystal–Zandian crystal, Daven told me–is embedded in a skylight in the ceiling, sending cascades of rainbows across the walls. Daven says Zandians use the crystal energy to nourish their bodies–they barely require food at all.

“I like seeing the beings come and go.” I gesture at the road, paved in flat stones that twinkle with bits of crystal. Two humans chatter below me–it’s a comforting sound. “I like watching.”

A group of Zandian warriors stride together towards a far dome. They are as strong and beautiful as Daven although they don’t evoke the same yearning for physical touch in me that he does.
