He’s definitely slowing, I think.

Part of me is relieved, but another part of me is hoping that whoever is driving is not some crazed kidnapper with a taste for human flesh. Because whoever is behind the wheel of that thing is definitely not a woman.

I don’t care what the cowgirls down here are like, that’s definitely a man’s truck, and even if I have been doing power yoga routines from YouTube lately, I sure won’t be able to defend myself against him.

“Shit, shit, shit, shit,” I mutter under my breath as he slows and pulls up behind me. “Don’t worry, Jess. Everything’s going to be just fine.”

This is, however, one time I wish I’d bought that keychain-mace my sister was telling me to carry on me at all times.

I pull out my phone again. I do have Triple-A. Maybe I can get them to come and bring me some gas? But of course I have no idea what their number is, as I’ve never had to call before, and I don’t even know if I have my card on me.

Quickly, I go back to the car and grab my purse. It’s then that I realize just how much of a mess I’ve kept my wallet in. Old movie ticket stubs, slips of paper with things written on them that I can’t even remember what they’re for now. I basically only know where my license and debit card are, and the rest is the world’s greatest mess.

It’s then that I hear the sound of the truck’s door opening and closing behind me.

I feel a nervous knot form in my stomach.

If I wasn’t sweating from the heat already, I’d be sweating now.

Well, there could have been worse reasons to have pulled over on the highway. That’s a damn fine ass bent over right there, and the owner of it seems to be in a bit of a sticky situation.

Women. Always getting themselves into some shit they can’t get out of.

“Hey!” I call out. “What’s the problem?”

The girl quickly pulls herself from her car and turns to face me. She’s sweating like crazy, but as far as I’m concerned, that only enhances her sexiness. And goddamn is she sexy.

She’s got brunette hair with just a hint of red in it, and she looks really, really pissed off. She also looks scared like she thinks I might do something to her. She better not be one of those man-haters or something.

“Aside from burning alive out here?” she shouts. “I seem to have run out of gas.”

“Seem to?” I call back.

“Yeah, well my car’s fuel gauge said everything was fine,” she cries out, glaring at the broken-down sedan beside her. “But then all of a sudden…”

She throws her arms up in the air in obvious frustration. A strand of hair falls across her face, and she sort of blows it aside in the cutest way with a puff of air from her lips. She’s wearing short jean shorts that are all torn up at the hem and show off her gorgeous thighs. I bet if she sat down at the right angle, I’d be able to see right up them like she was wearing a skirt. She is sexy.

“Hello?” She waves a hand in the air to get my attention. I realize I’ve been staring like an idiot and haven’t responded to her. “Anyone in there?”

“Sorry,” I reply quickly. “I was just thinking…kind of a bad move on your dad’s part for letting his daughter out in a car that’s not up to shape, don’t you think?”

She frowns at me. I shouldn’t have gone there, but I wanted to get the attention off of me gawking like an idiot. I can barely keep my eyes off her tits, stretching the thing fabric of her t-shirt like they’re ready to explode out any second. She’s definitely not wearing a bra under there.

“Well, so much for all Texas boys being gentleman,” she replies. “Insulting my daddy like that.”

She purses her lips and crosses her arms beneath her breasts, accentuating their size and shape even more. I’m trying not to get lost in them, but it’s hard not to.

“Well, I’ll tell you how much of a gentleman I can be,” I reply. “Come hop in my truck, and I’ll rescue you from the cruel Texas heat and give you a ride out of here.”

She glances behind me at my truck and then back to me. “Have you ever seen that movie Jeepers Creepers?” she asks.

I laugh. “If I wanted to hurt you, I wouldn’t need to invite you into my truck to do it.”

God, she’s adorable. And what are the chances of me just running into her like this, stranded on the side of the road? I’m fighting every protective instinct inside me not to just go on over to her, lift her up, carry her over to the passenger seat, and slide her inside.
