It feels so strange to be opening up like this to a man I just met. I haven’t even told my mother or my sister that I feel this way yet. Right now, Liam is the only person on earth that knows how I feel about this.
Now that says something about him, doesn’t it?
“So why don’t you tell him that?” he asks.
“Why don’t I tell him that?” I reply, letting out a frustrated gasp. “You have not met my father.”
“Hardass?”
“Yeah, I mean…” I’m stammering. No one’s ever really asked me about Dad in this way. “He’s just—he’s Dad! You just do what he wants you to do, you know?”
Liam shakes his head. “My parents wanted me to go to school too, Jess. And you know what I did when I was seventeen?”
“Didn’t go, I take it?”
“That’s right.” He nods. “I dropped out of high school, got my first job on my first derrick, and started to make a living for myself. I went to my folks and I sat them down and I told them what I was going to do and that if they ever wanted to have any kind of relationship with me in the future, they needed to accept that.”
I see the intensity in his eyes, and I slowly nod. “And did they?”
“They did,” he replies. “Not right away, of course, but eventually.”
“So you’re saying I should go to my dad and just tell him, Hey, Dad, I don’t want to go to college and be pre-law?” I ask. Even envisioning that conversation in my mind is giving me anxiety. “And just hope that eventually he’ll accept it? He’ll kill me!”
“He’s your father, Jess,” Liam replies gently. “He loves you. He’s not going to kill you. Besides, if you need someone to protect you…”
He curls back one of his enormous, thick arms and points a thumb at his muscled chest.
“Oh, you’ll be my bodyguard from my dad for me?” I giggle. “Yeah, sure. That will make him like you…”
My voice trails off as I realize the implications of what I’m saying.
My dad like him? Why am I even worried about such a thing right now? I only just met Liam. I’m leaving in the morning when he gets me some gas to fill up my car. He already said he’s not driving me back to Lake Austin.
It must be all this Texas heat going to my brain. That’s all it is.
That’s why I’m not thinking straight.

Jess steps out of the bathroom wrapped in my striped blue and white linen towel looking like an absolute goddess. I can’t help gawking but do my best to force my mouth closed as I set eyes on her.
She wanted to wash the chlorine off her after we got out of the pool, so I took a quick rinse and then gave her the shower for as long as she wanted. Never in my life have I wished I actually owned some girly soaps or a loofa.
“Iced tea?” I ask her, raising the pitcher I prepared while she was washing up. It’s hard not to stare. My towel is soaked and clinging to her body like a second skin, highlighting every single one of her seductive curves.
“Yes, please,” she says sweetly. I smile and pour us both glasses as she goes to change back into her clothes.
I’m on her side now with this whole college thing. I don’t want her on any campus with those boys staring at her. They do co-ed dorms now from what I hear. No way in hell I’m letting her live in one of those. I’ll go to her dad myself if I have to on her behalf.
I take the glasses over to the couch and try not to think of her completely naked back there in the guest room as I set hers down on the coffee table. This is the first time I’ve had a woman over here at all, and damn if she isn’t the perfect one.
Everything about her is perfect. I only wish I had my farm completed instead of this ramshackle cabin to bring her back to. She deserves better, and I’m going to give it to her. I’ve never been more motivated to get started on my vision for the future than I am now.
“Is that mine?” she asks ironically as she comes out from the back hall, barefoot, her perky tits bouncing beneath her T-shirt as she walks toward me. She points to the iced tea on the coffee table and scoops it up before I can even offer a reply.
“That was for my buddy Frank actually,” I kid. “I forgot to pour you one.”
“Oh well.” She shrugs as she takes a sip. “Sorry, Frank. He’s going to have to get another one.”
She slides onto the couch beside me and curls her legs up beneath her, accentuating the perfection of her thighs. I’ve put on a pair of gray sweatpants with some athletic briefs beneath due to the fact that I’m still rock hard with excitement for her. If she only knew the things I want to do to her right now. How can I ever take her back to her car tomorrow?
