I was pretty sure it had been Wasp that had told him that if you found a woman that was too good for you, you had to lock her down, then spend every day for the rest of your life becoming a man who deserved her.

He took the advice.

He got the girl.

And they were one of the happiest couples I knew.

She calmed his chaos. He brought excitement into her life.

On the surface, it wasn't a couple you would see coming, but the more you thought about it, the more you saw them together, the more right it all seemed.

I wasn't at the point yet where I felt like I had the world to give Rey. I was still working on myself. I was still trying to overcome, to move on. But, I guess, that was okay. Because she knew what was involved now, she knew it would take time, that there would be missteps along the way. And she was okay with that. She would help me back up when I stumbled.

I didn't fucking deserve her.

But I was going to make sure that every day of my life, I worked on being able to.

"Go on. Go back to her. Can't leave a woman in bed alone too long, or they end up having another five book boyfriends." At my smirk, he shook his head. "What? Just me?" he asked, moving to stand and walk away. "I'll go play with her critters for a while. Enjoy your woman."

My woman.

There it was again, that feeling I had been having that I hadn't been able to name, that Rey had named for me.

Rightness.

It felt right that she was mine.

And I did need to get back to her.

I moved to stand, feeling a soreness in my ribs. It was nothing compared to how it had been. In another few days, there would barely be a pang.

And then, yeah, all bets were off.

I could take Rey any way I wanted, not limited by an injury to one goddamn position. Though, I had no complaints about the position. I got to feel Rey set her own pace, demand her own pleasure, watch her face as she was driven up.

I was pretty sure Rey riding me would forever be a favorite of mine.

I half-expected her to be passed out when I walked back in seeing as she had been mostly asleep when I had slipped out.

The last thing I expected when I walked in was to find her sitting off the side of my bed. Naked. With the gun I had given her.

Won't lie; It was actually a pretty fucking sexy sight.

"Babe, you alright?" I asked, keeping my voice soft, pretty sure I hadn't unloaded the thing.

"How old were you when you first held a gun?" she asked, looking over at me, her hair a little wild from bed, but eyes completely clear.

"Got a picture of me right out there in the common area holding a gun at three. Pretty sure it wasn't loaded," I added with a smile.

"What about when you first shot one," she pressed as I leaned back against the closed door.

"Probably about seven, maybe eight. Pops believed that if we were going to be around guns, that we needed to know how they worked."

To that, she looked down at the gun, nodding a little.

"I am going to be around guns a lot now," she went on. "I think maybe I should learn how they work."

"Babe, you told me you hate guns."

"I hate the senselessness of guns. Innocent people getting hit by stray bullets. Jealous guys gunning down their ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend. I think, now that I have seen things from your perspective, I understand how they may be necessary sometimes. That night, I felt a lot safer having the gun on me. I didn't like the idea of having to use it, but I liked the safety of knowing that I could if I needed to."

"Okay, babe," I said, moving toward her, gently pulling it from between her hands to put it on the nightstand. "I will teach you all about guns. But not today," I told her. "Today, I want to stay in bed with you."

Her smile was slow and sweet. "Well, I can get behind that plan," she agreed, moving into the bed, watching me as I undressed to join her.

"How did your meeting go?" she asked as she curled into my chest.

"About as expected."

"I take it that means I should really make that spare room my own for the animals."

"Fucking sorry you had to uproot your life, babe. I know that house is your comfort place."

"I'm not sorry," she said, her fingers tracing across my pec, teasing over the nipple. Innocent, really. But my cock was already getting hard. "I mean, it will take some getting used to. But it's nice here too. Oh," she said, stiffening a little.
