Out of the corner of her eye, Ambrie saw Jonas take a step closer, although the deputy put a light restraining hand on his arm.

“Right, of course.” Hannah completely ignored the warning in Master’s voice. “They’re going to do a scope and biopsies. That’s good to know. I’ll make sure this will feel good on your throat after. They won’t allow anything like Advil. Any blood thinners.” She sounded thoughtful, as if the two of them weren’t standing in front of her; she had already turned inward and was searching for something elusive. A little frown flitted across her face. “Would you mind if I put my hand on your throat for a moment?”

Ambrielle felt Master’s entire body tense, although outwardly, he didn’t change his demeanor at all. She leaned into him, her body tucked close into his side, one arm wrapped around his waist.

“What does that do, when you put your hand on his throat?” she asked casually to take the spotlight from Master.

Hannah blinked several times as if she’d forgotten anyone else was in the room with them. “I feel energy is the only way I can describe it. It would help me find the right ingredients to help heal his throat.”

Ambrie tilted her face up toward Master’s. She smiled, an intimate, just-between-the-two-of-them smile, conveying she needed him to be on the same page with her. Her fingers curled into his vest. “Sounds good to me. Anything to heal your throat, right, babe?”

She wanted him to comply. She could feel power flowing around the woman. Surely Master had to feel it as well. If he didn’t stop the growth of those polyps, sooner or later, he wouldn’t be so lucky and one or more wouldn’t be benign.

Master looked down at her for what seemed an eternity, then he turned his gaze on Hannah. “Sure. Do your worst.”

As Hannah reached toward Master, Jonas took another protective step toward his wife. Ambrie made a note of it, but her attention centered on the woman as she moved close to them. Heat surrounded them, but it was more than heat. The energy Hannah projected was so strong, the hair on Ambrielle’s arms and the back of her neck stood up. Electrical charges snapped over her skin, not hurting but energizing her.

Hannah laid her palm very gently on Master’s throat. She had closed her eyes, turning inward, but suddenly, her eyes flew open, going wide in shock, a gasp escaping. She bit down hard on her lip and shook her head. Tears glistened in her eyes, and she dropped her hand to her side. She looked visibly shaken, so much so that Jonas moved right up to her and circled her waist with his arm.

“I’ll make you something that will help you for after your appointment. You’re coming back, right? To get Ambrie?” Hannah’s voice was low and a little unsteady, as if she were trying not to cry.

“Thanks,” Master replied, sounding gruff. He turned away from Hannah. “Princess, I’ve got to go or I’ll be late.”

“I’ll be fine. I’ll wait here for you.” Ambrielle did her best not to cling to him when she wanted to. Fortunately, Seychelle and Savage had entered the shop and she knew she could go over to them and feel as if she had support. It wasn’t about someone being with her, it was about someone trying to kill Master. “Is Ink going with you? Who will be with you?” She tried to keep the anxiety out of her voice, but knew she failed.

“Ice will be with me, Ambrielle. You have fun. I’m going to be fine.” His kiss was very gentle, a mere brush of his lips against hers.

Jackson came up behind them. “I overheard you might need to find someone to sing at a church gig you’ve got going for the ladies, Master. Inez has been talking about the event for weeks now. She’s really excited about it. I think I can get someone for you. I just have to make certain his schedule is clear. Give me a day or two to see if I can take that off your shoulders.” He glanced at his watch and then looked over his shoulder at Jonas.

“I know,” Jonas called out. “Hannah, I’m taking Jackson to get his truck this morning, but I’ll be back. Are you going to be all right?”

“Of course.” Hannah still sounded shaken.

Ambrielle wished she knew what had upset Hannah. She’d touched Master’s throat. Had she been gifted with the power to “see” if he had cancer? Was that what she saw? Ambrielle was going to straight out ask her once Master left.

Jonas and Jackson walked out of the shop and the little bells in the shape of hats chimed merrily. Master looked at Savage and the two of them exchanged a grin. Ice and Storm just broke into laughter.
