“Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong. Things are great between us. Doria and Herbert just a little overprotective at times,” I say in a wry tone.
“I’d love to meet them one day,” Eric says, making my heart contract.
“Really?” I ask, my eyes wide.
“Yeah,” he replies. “It would be an honor.” Of course, my parents would flip if Eric walked through our front door. My mother would probably faint, and my father would drop to his knees and bow without ceasing.
Yet, the idea makes my heart warm because meeting my parents would be a major step in our relationship. It would mean that our love would no longer be a secret, and the possibility makes me breathless. After all, I'm ready to move forward in my relationship with Eric, but I'm scared to tell my parents that I've been seeing him for months behind their backs. Knowing Doria and Herbert, they'll probably die of shock. They’d want me to quit my job at the palace right away and would never approve of me dating a prince. They’re big fans of “knowing your place” and “staying in your own lane.” Plus, my parents don't live under a rock – they’ve seen what the tabloids have to say about Eric. They would probably think he’s just out for my body, but I know better because but what he and I share with each other is real.
Putting aside my doubts, I shoot my lover a dazzling smile.
“I’ll introduce you to them when the time is right,” I promise.
“I can’t wait,” he smiles without missing a beat. “I want to know everything about you, Kitty.” He gazes into my eyes, and it feels like we’re the only two people in the world. I feel like I’m staring directly into his soul, and the feeling is indescribable. I know that what I have with Eric is real, and it’s not just something that I’ve dreamed up.
“Thank you for bringing me here. You’ve made this day perfect,” I murmur emotionally. His big hand strokes my back.
“I just wanted to show you how much I care about you. You mean a lot to me, Kitty,” he says. It feels good to hear him say that because it only emphasizes what he already said in his letter. Despite our different stations in life, we care about one another, and nothing can change it.
My handsome man tips my chin up to look into my eyes.
“I hate that we have to sneak around, but I promise you, sweetheart – one day, I'll tell the world just how much I love you,” he says. Oh my gosh! He finally said it! Eric loves me! I've been waiting for what seems like forever to hear those words come out of his mouth.
“I love you, too,” I say, my heart beating like a drum.
“I was hoping you would say that,” he murmurs. Then, he gently kisses my forehead, and I shiver with anticipation at his loving touch.
I take hold of his large hand and intertwine our fingers. This day trip has been wonderful because we’ve finally declared our adoration for one another, and it feels like we’ll able to take next steps immediately. I’m not sure what the timeline is, but I know that Eric is an honorable man. We’ll be out in public sooner rather than later, and I can’t wait to proclaim my love for this man to the world.
CHAPTER 15
Eric
I watch Kitty’s hips sway in the breeze as I follow closely behind her. I swear, those damn things are hypnotizing. The curvy girl glances back at me, and the sun illuminates her beautiful features as she smiles. I grin back at her, unable to hide how happy I am right now.
I'm glad our day trip in France went smoothly and even better, that no one recognized me as the Prince of Chromia. As a result, Kitty and I laughed and talked for hours, and I was able to open up to her about my life and future. I told her things I've never told anyone else before; I feel like I can tell her anything.
I follow the sweet girl to her side of the car and open the door for her like a gallant gentleman. Trust me, this is out of character because before I met Kitty, I didn't do much actual dating. With other women, I was just in it for the sex because I've never really been a romantic kind of guy. But this woman makes me sappy. Kitty brings out a better side of me, a side I never before even knew existed, and it’s a total one eighty.
After she climbs inside the car, I close the door behind her and saunter over to the driver’s side before getting in. I have to get Kitty back to Chromia before her parents start to worry, and with a three-hour drive ahead of us, it's starting to get dark. As a result, I speed down the highway, listening to her angelic voice as she sings along with a song that's playing on the radio. I grab her delicate hand and gently stroke it with my thumb. I didn't think I would ever find love because of who I am, but now I know for certain that I’ve found it with this woman. Kitty doesn't care that I'm a prince, or that I'm the heir to a throne. Her heart is pure, and her soul gentle and kind.
