He had to wonder if she even realized she found him attractive. She liked his touch, but she would never admit to it, at least not yet. Raven was still a mystery.

He’d never been able to find out her real name. Even getting his guys to scan her image hadn’t brought in any new leads for him to figure out exactly who she was. Raven was a complete and total mystery.

Smokey wouldn’t talk. No one would talk.

No one knew anything other than the fact, one day, Raven arrived in Fort Clover, complete with a leather cut and a bad attitude, but only to those who pissed her off.

Carlos intended to be one of the people who didn’t piss her off.

She ordered breakfast, and he watched as she locked her fingers together, staring down at the table.

“It’s not going to attack me,” he said.

“So, what’s the game plan here?” she asked. “Why are you in Fort Clover? When do you plan to return home? Why is someone wanting you dead on Hell’s Bastards MC turf?”

“Can’t we have an enjoyable breakfast? Do we have to talk shop?”

“We can, but you’ve got to do some talking. I need all the facts.”

“I only talk if you talk.”

“Carlos, I’m helping you to stay alive. You don’t need anything else from me. I’m not asking you for small talk.”

“But I want some small talk. How about backstory?” he asked.

“There is nothing to tell.”

No, he believed there was a lot of shit she wanted to tell, but fear held her back, or something else.

“Then tell me of the Hell’s Bastards MC. Which one or ones have you fucked?”

Raven’s nostrils flared. “Fine, but you tell me first. Why would someone want you dead here?”

“I can give you any number of reasons, Raven. I’m Carlos Santiago. I’m not a good man. I have many enemies, most of which want me dead, including some of the capos close to me.” He didn’t mention Sebastian, but he was also the prime suspect on his list. “Now, you spill.”

“You gave a vague answer.”

“I gave the right answer. I have a lot of enemies. So does your club. You can’t tell me that if someone came hunting you down, you’d only have one name on that list.”

Raven’s lips pursed. “You’re right. It would be a few.”

“Exactly. Now answer my question.”

“Fine. None.”

“None? I find that hard to believe.”

“I haven’t fucked any of the club.”

“What about the club pussy?” he asked.

“No.”

Carlos stared at her and had to wonder if she was lying. “How can that be possible?”

“Easy, I don’t find any of them attractive.” She shrugged.

“They’re good-looking men, and they enjoy using their dicks.”

“Do you want me to have fucked all of them? Had them lined up and taken me?” Raven asked.

“You can’t be pissed off at me for being curious.”

Raven chuckled. “I’m not pissed, but it is such a guy thing to not believe me. I don’t go around fucking every single man just because he has a pretty face and a big dick.”

“Are you a virgin?”

“No.”

Something changed in her face. A darkness. Her knuckles were white as she clenched her hands into fists.

“Let’s get back on track. No more trips down memory lane. We need to figure out who wants to kill you. Narrow down the suspects, and then we can focus on hunting them down and killing them.”

Raven finished just as the waitress brought them their breakfast. She smiled at the other woman and took her breakfast, and he watched as she started to eat. Raven wasn’t a virgin, but something bothered her in the way she had lost it.

Had she been raped?

Was she running from an old boyfriend?

There was so much about Raven he didn’t know. Like her last name.

No one would tell him.

Even Sebastian hadn’t known much about her. They ate in silence, and all Carlos wanted to do was get to the truth. To figure out who Raven really was.

To understand her.

She ate her food slowly, looking around the room and constantly keeping a vigil on who came and left. She took her role as his protector seriously. He still needed to talk to Smokey about their plans. Until then, he was more than happy with her playing this role, and she did it so well.

The clothes she wore looked perfect for the role as his wife. The colors enhanced the darkness of her hair but worked with her pale complexion. She’d pulled her hair back, but he intended to have her let it fall free. He wanted to feel that length running through his fingers. He’d love to grip it as he drove his dick deep inside her, fucking her, taking her. making her moan and scream his name. If she would just give them a chance, he’d make it so good for her.

She finished her breakfast moments after him. He paid the bill, and they left, getting back in the car and going to his home. Neither of them talked. He got the sense that he’d already made enough small talk for one day.
