“I … I’m going to be spending a lot more time with Carlos. We’re kind of together.”
“Smokey and Carlos made a deal,” Ava said. “I know this is going to hurt, but all along, Carlos was trying to make you pregnant so you go with him. It was all part of their plan.”
She looked from Ava to Abriana, not exactly sure if she had heard it right. There was no way she could have heard it right, could she?
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Raven said.
“Smokey was cleaning shop, and he thought it would be best if you weren’t … part of it anymore. Carlos is completely infatuated with you, and they made a deal. You were to go with Carlos. He’d make you fall in love with him and then he’d get you pregnant. You’d pick him and leave the club.”
Raven stumbled back. “You’re wrong.”
“No. I wish I was wrong,” Ava said. “But I’m not. Honestly, I don’t want you to leave the club. Your place is right here.”
It had been a lie. All along.
Something hadn’t sat right with Raven, but she figured it was because she had fucked up so much already.
None of this was real. Carlos was just … using her. Smokey no longer wanted her at the club.
“I have to go,” Raven said.
Ava and Abriana called after her, but she ignored them. Carlos’s car was waiting for her outside. She’d taken his car as Smokey was due to arrive at Carlos’s home.
Behind the wheel, she thought about riding off into the sunset. Of turning her back on all of this and never finding out the truth. Part of her was afraid to find out exactly what was going on.
She wanted Carlos and was falling hard and fast for him.
It had to be a mistake.
Raven pulled onto the main road and headed toward Carlos’s home. The drive was a short one, and she parked a few feet away from his home. Tall trees hid the car from view, and Raven climbed out.
Walking toward the gate, she saw that Smokey’s bike was already there. The gates also hadn’t been closed properly.
Sloppy work from Carlos.
Her heart raced as she snuck inside the gates. She didn’t know for certain if Carlos monitored them, or if there was a motion sensor, but she was going to try to get in the house. Ava and Abriana had to be wrong.
Smokey wouldn’t do that to her. She had fucked up with Ava and Abriana, but…
Raven didn’t even want to finish her thoughts. Smokey had every single right to remove her.
She had fucked up. He wouldn’t allow her to be used though. No. Not by Carlos. There was no way she could believe that to be true. It had to be a lie.
False.
Out of everything Smokey could do to her, she didn’t believe he’d make a deal with Carlos for her. For business yes, but not for her.
Raven found the dining room window had been left open from that morning. She’d been too hot, and rather than sit with her ass sweating, she’d opened it. No one had closed it. After climbing inside, she removed her heels and padded across the room, hearing Carlos and Smokey in the kitchen.
“That concludes our business,” Smokey said.
“Indeed it does. I’ll be taking Raven back home with me. We’ll be leaving by the end of the week,” Carlos said.
This was news to her. He’d told her that morning he wanted to stay in Fort Clover for some considerable time.
Raven had missed this place. It was … home.
“And Raven knows about this?” Smokey asked. “She hasn’t come to me to tell me she’s handing in her leather cut.”
“She will.”
“Raven’s place is here,” Smokey said.
Ava had to be wrong. They had to be.
“Smokey, the original agreement stands. Drago is going to keep his mouth shut. Raven is never going to find out that you wanted her out of the club and I was going to knock her up to do it. I’ve handled my part.”
“Your part?”
She heard the rustling of paper, but she was reeling.
Tears filled her eyes. It was all true, and why was she constantly so close to tears all the damn time? She was starting to hate her own body’s reactions.
Smokey wanted her out of the club. He hadn’t come to her. Instead, he’d gone behind her back.
“Raven’s pregnant.”
“Yes. The tests confirm it. It won’t be long until she’s my wife, and then she will never be your problem again.”
Raven slammed the doors open, startling both men as they crashed against the wall. “How dare you?”
Smokey and Carlos looked shocked.
Good.
“You wanted me out of the club, fine. All you had to do was say so and I’m out. You think I didn’t know what you were doing? That I didn’t notice the free pussy disappearing being replaced by all the new pieces of ass?” She hated that tears blurred her vision. Pain sliced through her body, and now she knew why. She was pregnant. After all this time, she was going to be a mother. It explained the constant crying. The emotions.
