“Nah, Raven’s not here.” He looked directly at Smokey.

“She’s busy, babe. Don’t worry about her.”

“I haven’t seen her in some time,” Ava said.

“Busy,” Smokey said, grabbing the menu.

Raven made it out of the door and ran toward her bike, out of sight. Carlos said his goodbyes, promising Smokey he’d be in touch, and quickly left the diner. He walked down the long high street and was surprised to see Raven by his car. She straddled her bike, waiting for him.

“You stayed.”

“Yeah, I wanted to say thanks. I … yeah, thanks.”

“You know running away and avoiding is not going to help the situation. It’ll only extend things.”

She pointed at him and smiled. “Shouldn’t you be taking your own advice?”

“I’m not running away.”

“Keep on telling yourself that. See you around, Carlos.” She revved her engine, winked at him, and took off.

Carlos was very much aware of the fact she wasn’t wearing a helmet, and there was an air of danger and daring around her.

What was going on in that woman’s head?

Chapter Three

“You’re needed at the bakery.”

Raven looked up to see Hunter in her bedroom doorway. She’d just gotten back from another shift at The Shack. She had thrown up after watching a woman take over ten men in the ass.

“What?”

“Harlow called. She needs some assistance. Sounded pretty panicked. Big Dick’s out of town, and he asked us to keep an eye on his little sister.”

“Can’t one of the prospects do it?” Raven asked.

“You want me to tell Big Dick that we sent a little shit to take care of his sister?” Hunter asked. “It’s an order. You’re around doing nothing.”

“I’m fucking learning.” She held up a repair manual. Raven had been trying to read how to fix bikes for years. None of the guys would let her practice on their bikes, so she had to do everything on her own. It had resulted in her destroying two bikes and blowing up a third, but she was making progress. Smokey had offered to send her to school, but that required … information.

A lot of which she wasn’t willing to give.

“Yeah, and we know what your learning is doing for the environment. It’s an order.” Hunter slapped her door.

“Get Elijah to do it. Or Rocky, what about him? Vice, he does fuck all,” she said.

“Raven, do it.”

She had already closed her book and was on her feet.

It was no big deal. Go to the bakery. The same one she had avoided since Smokey and Ava had patched shit up. This was a piece of cake.

After grabbing her keys, she ran down the stairs and headed out into the parking lot. Aware as she did so of the changing faces of the women around her. Kinky and Brick were outside, talking. The three of them had gone to the bakery and dragged Ava to the clubhouse at Smokey’s request. They glanced at her, and she had to wonder if they were … waiting.

Maybe they wouldn’t be a target. They seemed to hang around Ava without a problem.

She nodded at them, and they went back to talking.

Straddling her bike, she didn’t wait around, but headed straight toward the bakery, riding as fast as she could. If Harlow had called, it meant she was in trouble. The young woman was a spitfire, and related to Big Dick, Raven saw the family resemblance.

It didn’t take her too long to make it into the main town. Finding a space was next to impossible. She had no choice but to park up on the curb and head straight into the store. Shoulders squared and ready, she saw the cause of the problem.

“What’s going on in here?” Raven asked.

There was a mess everywhere. It looked like the guy had taken out the soda fridge and thrown the napkin dispenser, and the chairs had also been toppled over.

“Thank fuck. It took you long enough,” Harlow said, stepping out from behind the counter. “Now you’re in trouble, asshole. This guy says that his sandwich had mold on. I watched him eat it across the street, and by eat, no human eats like that. The guy was a fucking trough! I’d call him a pig, but that’s an insult to pigs.”

Raven struggled not to laugh. Harlow was adorable. A cute, sexy vegan package.

“You can’t talk to me that way.” When the customer went to hurt Harlow, Raven stepped in, grabbing his arm, spinning it around his back, and pressing him up against the wall.

He screamed. “Abuse!”

“Dude, you were going to hurt a young woman. Now I suggest you apologize to her right fucking now, or I’m going to wipe that ugly-ass face off you, and any chance you got of having your dick sucked is so fucking gone.”

When he didn’t say anything, she applied a little pressure as a way of encouraging him. It worked as he howled in pain, begging for her to stop.
