Consumed with lust and emotion, I looked at him, and with my voice trembling, I whispered, “I’ve never wanted anyone like I want you.”

“You’ve got me, baby. All of me.”

I lowered my mouth to his once more, and we spent the next hour making love. We probably would’ve kept at it even longer if Roscoe hadn’t decided to attack the Christmas tree. It started with a simple tug of an ornament and ended with the entire tree crashing down, trapping him beneath it. When he started to wail, I hopped off the sofa and slipped on my shirt.

“It’s okay, sweetie. Momma’s coming.”

We both rushed over to the corner of the room, and the second we lifted the tree, Roscoe came rushing out like something had bitten his backside. Quinton chuckled as he said, “Maybe now he’ll think twice before he fucks with the tree again.”

“I wouldn’t count on that.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right.” He stepped over and gave me a quick kiss on the forehead. “I’d stay and help you clean this mess up, but I’ve gotta get to the clubhouse.”

“It’s fine. I’ve got it.”

While he went to finish getting ready, I put my clothes back on and got to work putting the Christmas tree back together. Thankfully, only a couple of the ornaments broke, and I was able to get everything back the way it was without any major issues. I was putting on the final touches when Quinton came into the living room, and I couldn’t help but notice that he was wearing his old boots.

He gave Roscoe a menacing glare as he growled, “You better leave my boots alone, or it’s gonna be your ass. You got that?”

Like he understood what he’d said, Roscoe lifted his head and barked.

“I think he gets it.”

“I certainly hope so.” Quinton stepped over to me and gave me another quick kiss before he said, “Don’t forget about the Christmas party tonight.”

“I haven’t.” I smiled as I told him, “Wren has already called to remind us that we’re supposed to be at the clubhouse at six. She also wanted me to remind you to bring your dirty Santa gift.”

I was with him when he ordered an awful pair of boxers with an image of his face plastered in the center, so I knew he was joking when he said, “I’m thinking Roscoe should be my gift.”

“Not a chance. Those awful boxers will have to suffice.”

“Those boxers are the shit, and you know it.”

“I’m sure they will be a huge hit tonight.” I shook my head and giggled as I told him, “Now, get out of here. You’re already late.”

“You’re right.” He bolted towards the door as he shouted, “Love ya, babe.”

“Love you, too!”

Seconds later, the back door opened and closed, and he was gone. I went over and scooped Roscoe into my arms and carried him over to the sofa. I turned him to face me as I said, “Guess what! Your daddy and I are gettin’ married.”

Roscoe cocked his head to the side like he understood me.

“Yeah, I know. Crazy, right?”

He cocked his head to the other side.

“We’ve got a good thing here. Better than I ever thought possible.”

Roscoe wiggled in my lap and barked in agreement.

“I know. I really love him, and he loves me.” I leaned down and gave him a kiss on the tip of his nose. “And we love you, too. Even when you knock over the Christmas tree.”

He gave me another little bark, and I pulled him in for a big hug, and tears filled my eyes as I told him, “Looks like I’m getting my happy ending after all.”

EPILOGUE

Q

Three Years Later

“Did you grab the diaper bag?”

“It’s already in the car.”

“What about extra bottles? And what about Bella’s pacy?”

“Got them, too.”

Jules unlatched Bella’s car seat, then lifted it from its carrier and slipped her arm under the handle. Bella was only five months old, and we were both very protective of her. And rightly so. Jules had a difficult pregnancy, and I almost lost them both during her delivery.

We’d only taken her out a couple of times, so I wasn’t exactly thrilled about taking her out today. Unfortunately, there was no way around it. Mia was about to have her first kid, and there was no way we were going to miss it. Jules inhaled a deep breath before saying, “We’re all set.”

“Are you sure about this?” I looked down at Bella, all nestled in her car seat, and it was all I could do to keep from putting her right back in the car. Even though I knew she wouldn’t go for it, I suggested, “You could always wait in the car, or I could stay while you took Bella back home.”

“No, Quinton. We’re staying.”

“Okay, but she stays in the seat, and we’re keeping a blanket over her.”
