CC smiled. Sunshine was right. The coffee shop ran just fine without her, mostly because she’d hired the best staff in the world. She rounded the desk and gave her friend and employee a hug before grabbing her purse and heading for the door.
Ten minutes later, CC entered Design Magic with her head held high, filled with excitement.
“CC. How’s it going? I don’t usually see you in the middle of the day unless I need coffee.” Gemma grinned as she came around the cash register.
CC’s face heated. Was this a good idea? “I, uh…” She took a deep breath and decided to be brave. “I was looking for some lingerie.”
Gemma’s smile grew larger. “Would this have anything to do with a certain doctor who’s been taking care of you for the past two weeks?”
CC’s face heated further. “Does everyone know about that?”
Gemma shrugged. “I mean the town isn’t that large, and his car has been in your driveway every night, so…”
Right. Duh. Word sure got around.
Gemma glanced at CC’s hand and then motioned toward it. “Looks like he did a good job doctoring you. Your hand looks all better.”
CC rubbed it as she’d grown accustomed to lately. “Yes. It’s all healed. Da…” She slammed her lips together, mortified by what had almost come out of her mouth. After clearing her throat, she continued, “Hunter is taking me out tonight. I thought I’d get something new to wear.”
“Just lingerie? Or were you thinking of something to go over it?” Gemma winked. “And don’t think I didn’t notice your slip of the tongue. You don’t have to worry about keeping your secret from me. I’m Little myself. I have pretty good Little radar.”
Gemma giggled as she pointed to a spot next to the register. There was an adorable well-loved bumblebee stuffie nestled against the edge.
CC nodded. “It’s weird for me. My husband and I only practiced age play at home. I’m not used to being out.”
Gemma shrugged. “I understand. I’ve been pretty quiet about my own preferences too. But lately, I’ve realized this community is very open and accepting of a variety of lifestyles. I might even join Blaze one of these days. I know Ellie and Daisy and several of their friends and co-workers along this strip are members.”
CC nodded again. “Yeah. There are a lot. I’ve been going recently too. Let me know if you ever want a wingman to go with you. Or a wing-Little I guess.” She giggled. The sound made her feel lighter. Until recently she hadn’t laughed much in the past few years.
“When was the last time you got a new dress?” Gemma asked.
“I don’t know. It’s been a while.” Probably before Darren died.
“Let’s see what we can find that will make you feel sexy, Little, and happy all at the same time, shall we?”
Chapter Ten
A half hour later, CC left Design Magic with a bag clutched in her hand. She was swinging it and smiling as she nearly skipped a few doors down to Little Cakes. The contents of the shopping bag indeed had made her feel Little, sexy, and happy. She couldn’t wait for Daddy to see her tonight.
Just talking with Gemma had helped CC come to grips with the fact that CC thought of Hunter as her Daddy now. She sent a mental hug to her former husband. She knew he still kept watch over her. Darren would want her to be happy. Hunter had definitely revealed his Daddy skills while he’d taken care of CC for the last two weeks. She smiled to herself. Darren would have liked Hunter. She pushed her deep thoughts away as she reached the bakery entrance.
“CC!” Ellie’s voice rang out as CC stepped into the sweet-smelling bakery.
CC took a deep breath and inhaled slowly. She loved the smell of cupcake batter and freshly baked treats. The scent of frosting didn’t hurt either.
“How’s your hand?” Ellie asked as she approached. There weren’t any patrons in the shop at the moment, mostly because CC had arrived after the lunch crowd but before kids got out of school.
CC clutched her purchase in her left hand and held her right out for Ellie to see. “It’s so much better. Thank you for everything you and all your friends did to help me out the past few weeks. I really appreciate it.”
Ellie waved a dismissive hand through the air. “Any time. That’s what friends are for.” She pointed at the package. “Did you go shopping?”
CC glanced down. “Yes. I have a date tonight. I was thinking I might pick up a few cupcakes for later.”
“Well, you’ve come to the right place.” Ellie spun around and pointed at the display case. “Riley and Tori just finished restocking after the lunch crowd. What are you interested in?”
CC stepped closer and let her gaze run over everything in the case before wincing as she looked up at Ellie. “I hate to admit this, but pumpkin spice is my favorite. I guess it’s a lot of people’s favorite because they fly off the shelf in my coffee shop. Thank you for supplying me with them. The customers love it when they see your cupcakes.”
