When I notice that Coleson has pulled the black box from the side of his wheelchair, I excuse myself to my room. I don’t want to watch him make what was already a real marriage real with a ring. Not when my mind is going a thousand miles a second. I hate faking happiness, I hate faking that I’m okay, and I just need to breathe. I rush into my room, shutting the door and locking it as my heart continues to race in my chest.
It hasn’t stopped since this morning.
I walk back to the bathroom and reach for the box of pregnancy tests. I take one out of the box, throwing the packaging in the sink and ignoring the other three positives that are lying on my counter.
Before I even pull it out from between my legs, the plus sign is showing.
