I replied to Ty.

Hi. Yeah, of course, I’ll do that right now.

Then I went on to my Mclean House app and accepted a request from one @DaddyOfTerra.

I even missed his dog. Terra had been so damn sweet and funny. Full of character and life, much like her daddy.

“I might kidnap her…” I threw a glance over my shoulder, and Ty smirked lazily and slipped an arm under his head. What a fucking vision he was. Sheets pooling low around his hips, a couple sleep lines across his chest… Outside the little round window above his head, a new day had arrived. The sun was rising. The boat bobbed slightly when a neighboring boat drove out into the sound.

“You can try, darlin’.” His morning voice was something else too. So damn sexy. “I tend to get possessive of things that are mine.”

I closed my eyes and remembered I’d fallen silent. No witty retort or anything had come to me. Instead, I’d snuck back under the sheets and pretended we had a future. I’d kissed him all over. I’d made him groan when I’d swallowed him down.

I wanted to ask him what his favorite pictures were from our playtime on the island. Colt had taken hundreds, and I wanted to see them all.

I wanted to pretend again. Pretend that I was a thing of his he was possessive of.

I exhaled and opened my eyes.

In retrospect, it wasn’t weird to me at all if Walker and Ty had something now. Ty had taken me by storm too.

And now he was moving on. Probably. I assumed. Maybe. I mean, I didn’t think I was totally out there when I thought back on our last couple of days together; I’d felt he was testing the waters to see if I might be interested in more. But he hadn’t offered any insight into what that would be. A relationship or a casual playtime arrangement.

It didn’t matter anymore.

Not that it stopped a tiny bolt of longing and excitement to tear through me when I saw he’d texted again.

Do you want me to send everything in a zip file or just the 50 I picked out?

I planted my elbow on the table and slipped my fingers into my hair. I wanted all of them, but he was asking a junkie if he wanted fifty fixes or three hundred. The fifty, on the other hand, would reveal his favorites.

Also, couldn’t he just send them over text? I wasn’t even sure our DMs on the community site supported zip files.

I raked my teeth over my bottom lip and answered.

Hit me up with your favorites. You can send them here too.

He replied right away.

Will do. Still going through edits, so it’ll be a while. In the meantime…

I furrowed my brow until a link popped up, and I couldn’t believe it. A news article from a local Florida paper, similar to the one I’d read, about the fucking green orchid bee that’d established a new home in the state.

Ty wasn’t done texting.

Not all invasive species are bad.

That’s what I’d said!

I sucked in a breath and grasped my phone in both hands so I could type faster.

I read about that too. They’re fucking stunning. I’d like to see one in the wild someday. I guess it’s a blessing and a curse that Florida shares the same climate as major parts of South America and Asia.

While I waited for him to respond, I grabbed a Diet Coke from the fridge, then sat down again and opened the can.

Definitely a blessing and a curse. Some of the invasive insects are pure pests too, but not as bad as some plants and, well, you know the reptiles…

I grinned and typed quickly.

Most of my terrariums are bioactive, so I will happily slide into bug forums when pet-trade fanboys drive me batshit online. The bug world is just nicer!

His reply made me laugh.

Tsk. You should know better than to debate with those idjits, Lane.

I really fucking should.

Ty sent another message right after.

I’m not surprised to hear you run bioactive terrariums. That’s great. What do you use?

Hmm, it depended on the snake, but I had some species that were good cleanup crews overall, so I mentioned those.

Primarily tropical springtails, a few kinds of isopods. To be honest, I’ve bought some isopods that are just cool to look at.

I sat up straight just as I was about to ask how he kept his lizard’s home habitat. What the fuck was I doing? Why did he suck me into his world so goddamn easily? With a couple of texts, he could make all the anxiety and wistfulness fade away.

Goddammit.

Before this could get any worse, I put down my foot for myself by wrapping up our conversation.

Anyway. I gotta get back to what I was doing, but I’ll look at those pictures later.
