“Sorry, my errand took longer than expected. I had no idea how bad Ravenshoe’s traffic had become until…” My words trail off when I notice the bed Nicole was resting on is empty and made. The bedsheets are pulled so taut I could bounce a nickel off them. “Nicole?” I query while pacing toward the bathroom. The shower walls are see-through, and a half wall hides the toilet, so I know she isn’t using the facilities. I’m just hopeful she’s close by. “Are you here?”

Heavy stomps gobble up the silence of an empty room. “The day I’m not chasing you is the day I’m dead.” Knox looks winded while nudging his head to the door behind him. “Come on. We don’t have time. If the private jet runs over, I get charged for every second it sits unused on the runway.”

“Private jet?” I cough out, my shock too strong to ignore.

“Yeah. So will you get your fucking ass moving before you send me broke?”

When I remain frozen on the spot, Knox joins me in the middle of the rooftop “room.” His wonderment isn’t on par with mine when I stumbled onto this space last night. I was in complete awe, and the view improved tenfold with Nicole’s unexpected arrival.

“Hey,” I shout when Knox snatches up the breakfast I was planning to share with Nicole and River while introducing them, dumps it in the trash no longer housing used condoms, then guides me outside.

Where the fuck did the condoms go?

Did Nicole take them with her?

Shocked she’d do that, I follow Knox down the stairs and into the presidential suite. “You can eat on the plane. It’ll be better than any shit you’ll find around here.” A reason for his clammy skin comes to light when he adds, “There’s also someone I’m dying for you to meet. I had planned to introduce you last night, but things got hectic, and I ran out of time.”

I don’t know much about presidential suites, but I’m reasonably sure the one we’re entering is the primary suite. It is massive. It has two walk-in closets, and the steam coming out of the door at our left exposes the water is piping hot and endless.

“A delay was probably for the best.” He wiggles my shoulders. “Looks like you let off a heap of steam.”

He isn’t wrong. It just occurred in a way not even I had expected.

Knox squeezes my shoulder. “Was she good? I’ve heard great things about Candy.”

“Candy?”

“The prostitute—”

The creak of a door opening cuts him off. Then a harmonic, cock-thickening voice has him acting like a choirboy. “If I stay in there a second longer, I’ll become a prune.”

Knox waggles his brows at me, slaps my back like a giddy kid on Christmas morning, and then greets the woman causing the hairs on the back of my neck to stand to attention before she fully exits the bathroom. “Sorry, baby cakes. I forgot I asked you to wait for me.”

The reason for my body’s response to the woman’s voice is exposed when she breaks through the thick sheet of steam enough to reveal her gorgeous face and womanly curves.

I found you.

“Nikki, this is Laken,” Knox introduces, pulling Nicole toward my frozen body in the middle of her room. She looked ravishing last night with a sweaty face and misted body, but there’s something entirely different about seeing her drenched head to toe. It has me eager to push harder next time. To make her as saturated as she is now. “Laken, this is—”

“Nicole,” I interrupt, too impatient to wait for a proper introduction.

Finding the rooftop room empty hit me harder than first believed. The relief of seeing her standing in front of me can’t deny that.

“It’s Nikki,” Nicole corrects, her demeanor cool, almost icy. “And you are?”

Unaware we’ve met before, and not dumbfounded by her odd question, Knox answers on my behalf. “Laken. Laken Howell.” Nicole and I recoil in sync when he adds, “Your new bodyguard.”

“What?” Nicole gasps out in a shocked breath. “No!”

Her stern denial already has me on the back foot, so I won’t mention the unpleasant taste that hits my mouth when I notice how Knox is holding her. His hand hasn’t dropped from her waist even with them reaching his desired location, and they stand barely an inch apart when he twists her to face him.

I can’t hear a thing he says to her through my pulse ringing in my ears, but they look cozy. Extremely cozy.

“Laken?”

“Huh?” I reply after shifting my eyes to Knox, my questioner.

He glares at me as if to say, Get your head out of your ass, before continuing. “I was just explaining to Nik how you’ve recently returned from a long placement with the correctional department and that you’re wanting to go private, so I gave you a shot.”
