He grins, and things just get to be too much for me. I rocket to my feet and brush my hair back.

“Can I have a—a glass of water?” I stammer. “I’m thirsty.”

“Sure, let me get you one—”

“No, I can get it myself,” I reply, marching quickly to the bar, where I find a glass and quickly fill it from the tap.

It’s ice cold as it goes down but does nothing to quell the heat still burning within me. But it does stop my mouth from feeling like the Sahara Desert. As I turn around, I see Ethan’s eyes on me, and I have no doubt he was checking out my ass. An hour ago, I would have called him out on it, but now I don’t even say anything. I don’t have any time to anyway.

“Whitney, why don’t you come work for me?” he asks.

“Why don’t I what?” Are my ears playing tricks on me? Maybe it’s the craziness of the night—all the events not going the way I thought they would and me being trapped in that back room with those men for however long it was—but there’s no way Ethan just said what I think he just said.

“Come work for me,” he repeats, smiling at me like he just asked me to go out to dinner with him. “I’ve been looking for a new secretary slash personal assistant, and I think you’d fit the bill just right.”

“There is no way—”

“You want to believe me, Whitney,” he says, rising from the couch and coming over to me. Our height differential is so staggering. He towers over me as he steps up and sets his drink down on the bar, fixing his bright blue eyes on me like a pair of spotlights. “I know you do. And what better way to see that I’m not lying, than to come and see the inner workings of my world with access no one else gets?”

Tonight was about embarrassing Ethan in front of the world—about sabotaging his new supposed product launch and exposing him for the villain he is. So why am I having such a hard time making this decision right now? Why am I even considering the fact that he might not be the man I thought he was when I came here?

It can’t be just because I am so turned on by him, can it? I’m willing to admit that to myself now. I’d be a fool to deny it any longer. I totally am.

He’s a gorgeous man with a smile that I can feel pulling me in with a force I’m feeling harder and harder to resist.

But that can’t be why I’m thinking about saying yes to this job…can it?

“Fine,” I say sharply, pointing a finger at his chiseled face. “But only because you make a compelling argument. And if I find out you’re lying, I’ll have all the evidence I need to show to the world.”

“Good.” Ethan grins. “I’ll have papers for you to sign in the morning.”

Whitney

It’s the middle of the night when I wake up to the sound of my bedroom door opening. My eyes snap open to an unfamiliar ceiling, and I almost panic until I remember that I’m not at home; I’m in Ethan’s guest bedroom after having been invited to stay over last night.

But then I hear the sound of footsteps coming toward the bed, and my heart rate skyrockets.

I try to see through the darkness, but the only illumination in the room is a thin shaft of moonlight coming through the window on the opposite wall. I manage to make out the silhouette of a man, tall and muscled, slowly moving through the room.

I open my mouth to scream, but my voice is frozen deep in my chest. It’s then that the man reaches the moonlight, and his face is briefly lit, and I see it is Ethan, wearing nothing but a short pair of white boxer briefs.

His body is magnificent. Chiseled and muscled but sculpted like a fighter’s. He looks rugged, like a man built by living a life of struggle, not by a life in the gym. His legs are taut and thick and look like they could press the entire world, and his briefs look ready to tear around the massive bulge they’re doing their best to conceal.

My jaw drops, and in two seconds, he’s climbing into bed with me.

He’s on top of me, radiating so much body heat that I’m already starting to sweat as he leans down and brings his lips within a hair’s breadth of mine.

“Hey there, gorgeous,” he whispers, pressing his midsection against mine.

I gasp as I feel it—so thick and heavy, like a fist between his legs, touching me where no man has ever touched me before.

“H-hey,” I stammer, feeling hormones flooding through me.

Oh my God. So this is what it’s like being turned on.
